Do We Know Earth's Global Temperature?

I suggest laying the axe to the root: Humans have never actually measured the temperature of planet Earth.

Scientist Richard Courtney points out that there is no agreed definition of a global temperature.

Temperature measurements at fixed locations cannot predict the Earth as a whole.

A new sample, newly randomized, would have to be selected randomly each and every time someone measures Earth's temperature.

Using a handy statistics calculator, we might have to randomly select 18,095 locations - different each time - to get a 0.85% margin of error at a confidence level of 98%. That means that if the global temperature is in the vicinity of 59 degrees Fahrenheit, the margin of error would be half a degree.

The Earth's overall temperature could be sampled, say, once a year.

If we don't have a single temperature reading for the entire planet for today, how can we say if the planet is getting warmer or cooler or not changing at all? We cannot talk about the temperature in, say, Geneva or London or New York City only.

Pennsylvania Democrats Deal Another Blow to Pelosi's House Majority

Vulnerable Democrats Rep. Conor Lamb and Rep. Chrissy Houlahan are looking to exit the House of Representatives and run for the U.S. Senate, leaving House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to defend her shrinking majority and giving more momentum to the Republican effort to regain the House.

With midterms approaching, Democrats are quickly losing seats and momentum to members retiring, looking to escape the possible loss of a majority or seeking higher office.

Many Democrats allegedly believe "They would be unable to field a candidate who could hold onto his district next fall, likely costing them a seat." In addition, "Republicans control the state legislature, but Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf can veto their maps."

On Friday, another Democrat, Rep. Cheri Bustos, the former Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman, and a top lieutenant of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, announced Friday she would not be seeking reelection.

The Republican's campaign arm, National Republican Congressional Committee, created an "Exit List" last month, which was comprised of vulnerable Democrats the Republicans are looking to pick off in the midterm.

"House Democrats are running for the exits because they know they're in for a bruising election cycle which will cost them their jobs and their House majority," the National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Tom Emmer said in a statement when the NRCC first put the vulnerable Democrats on blast.

An NRCC Spokeswoman, Samantha Bullock, said in a statement, "Conor Lamb knows House Democrats are going to lose the majority in 2022 so he's looking for the nearest exit."

Hunter Biden still owns a stake in a Chinese company

Joe Biden's son Hunter still has a stake in a Chinese private equity firm, according to a report - despite a campaign pledge that neither he nor his family would maintain any foreign business interests.

In October 2019, while on the campaign trail, Joe Biden stated: 'No one in my family will have an office in the White House, will sit in on meetings as if they are a cabinet member, will have any business relationship with anyone that relates to a foreign corporation or a foreign country.

Hunter Biden sat on the board of BHR.He was making a dig at his predecessor Donald Trump, who hired daughter Ivanka and son-in law Jared Kushner as senior White House advisers.

Hunter Biden said at that time that he was stepping down from the board of the company.

Hunter Biden's business dealings have long caused his father headaches, amid accusations that the troubled Harvard-educated lawyer was trading off his family name.

Hunter had business interest in Ukraine, China and Kazakhstan, leading to concern about influence peddling.

Joe Biden has denied having any knowledge of his son's work.

Biden Administration Cancels Military-Funded Border Wall Projects

The Department of Defense announced it is canceling U.S.-Mexico border wall construction efforts that were paid with funds that were initially allocated for the military.

"The Department of Defense is proceeding with canceling all border barrier construction projects paid for with funds originally intended for other military missions and functions such as schools for military children, overseas military construction projects in partner nations, and the National Guard and Reserve equipment account," said Jamal Brown, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, in a statement.

Brown said the returned funds will now be used for deferred military construction projects.

"DOD has begun taking all necessary actions to cancel border barrier projects and to coordinate with interagency partners. Today's action reflects this Administration's continued commitment to defending our nation and supporting our service members and their families," he said.

The Department of Homeland Security also announced on Friday that it would take steps to address "Physical dangers resulting from the previous administration's approach to border wall construction."

GOP Congress members have previously accused President Joe Biden of illegally halting congressionally approved border wall construction projects, while the Government Accountability Office is investigating whether the administration acted illegally.

Illegal immigration has become an issue for Biden as his administration has dealt with a surge of illegal immigrants and unaccompanied minors along the southern border.

St. Louis advances plan to cut $4M from police budget and remove 98 vacant officer jobs

City officials in St. Louis, Missouri, are moving forward with a plan to cut $4 million from the police budget and remove 98 vacant officer jobs.

The local Board of Estimate and Apportionment voted 2-1 in favor of the spending plan, which pledges to remove $4 million from the $171 million police budget and reallocate that money to social services, according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

The plan cuts 98 vacant police jobs, including six lieutenants, 25 sergeants, and 67 police officers, which the mayor says have been vacant for 12 years.

Several groups have criticized the move, citing the amount of violent crime in the city, including a group of black police officers that argued the police department is already stretched too thin.

"St. Louis City has a 'right now problem' relative to violent crime, so any measure that does not include adequate police staffing is misguided," the Ethical Society of Police said about the plan.

The police department had been using the extra money for the jobs to cover overtime that officers had logged, which will now need to be trimmed down, according to city budget Director Paul Payne, who says the department "Will need to reduce actual overtime because they will not have that leeway to spend going forward."

Payne added that the budget for overtime has been exceeded in part because of how often police have been forced to respond to street protests.

Republicans come to Tim Scott's defense amid racist attacks

Republican lawmakers are coming to the defense of Sen. Tim Scott after he faced a torrent of racist responses from some Democrats to his rebuttal to President Biden's first address.

After praising Scott for his characterization of racism in America, Cruz turned his focus toward Twitter, which allowed the racial slur "Uncle Tim" to appear on it's list of trending topics for 12 hours after the speech.

"Twitter, on the other hand - listen, the left is intolerant, the left believes in cancel culture, and there are few things that enrage the left more than minorities that don't sit down and shut up and obey."

"You know that's shameful, that is shameful. If anybody knows Tim Scott, you know him to be the real deal. A wonderful human being that helps all of us understand his growing up, his challenges. He talked about that last night," the West Virginia senator told anchor John Roberts.

Sen. Tim Scott is hitting back himself, accusing the left of exposing their own "Hypocrisy" and "True motivation."

Speaking to Fox News' "Hannity" Thursday evening, Scott described it as "Saddening to see" the kind of backlash he faced as a black man for saying in his address to the nation that "America is not a racist country."

Scott went on to express pride in who he was and how he identified before again calling out the hypocrisy of those going after him.

Biden's CIA Director Claims He Cut Ties with Chinese Communists, But His Group Maintains Links.

Despite President Biden's Central Intelligence Agency Director Bill Burns testifying he cut ties to a Chinese Communist Party-linked influence group, The National Pulse can reveal the controversial relationship between the Carnegie Endowment - formerly led by Burns - and the Chinese Communist influence group continued through 2021.

CUSEF is part of the Chinese Communist Party's United Front Work Department, which seeks "To co-opt and neutralize sources of potential opposition to the policies and authority of its ruling Chinese Communist Party" and "Influence foreign governments to take actions or adopt positions supportive of Beijing's preferred policies," according to the U.S. government.

Purporting to be "Increasingly worried about the expansion of Chinese influence operations," Burns, who currently leads the Central Intelligence Agency, was adamant he cut Carnegie's ties with CUSEF "Not long after" he began his tenure.

The Shanghai-based, Chinese Communist Party-run think tank working alongside the Carnegie Endowment admits "Financial support" from CUSEF fueled the endeavor.

The paper itself focuses on tackling "Cyber threats to nuclear command, control, and communications systems" - despite Chinese Communist Party entities routinely conducting cyberattacks against U.S. interests including government agencies.

The unearthed ties add to other developments discrediting Burns's claims he took a stand against CUSEF overtures, as the Chinese Communist Party group's founder visited the Beijing-based Carnegie-Tsinghua Center in 2017.

Carnegie's 2018 financial report also lists CUSEF - effectively the Chinese Communist Party - as a donor.
