The Founding Fathers were wary of institutional threats to liberty and the citizenry's sovereignty, which included centralized concentrations of power and the tyranny of corruption unleashed by small-minded, self-interested, greedy grifters who saw all elected offices and positions of government influence as nothing more than a means to increase their own private wealth.

The Founders feared the dominance of self-interested, greedy grifters because they had no concept of the public good: to the greedy grifters, the government existed solely to serve their petty private interests and the interests of their fellow grifters.

We are living the Founders' nightmare, for America is corrupt to the core.

While everyone gorging at the public trough bleats about the "Common good," their single-minded focus is on aggrandizing as much power and private wealth as possible, and feeding their corrupt crew of insiders, lobbyists, "Business interests," bankers and assorted other legalized looters.

America has plenty of law enforcement, prosecutors and prison cells for those who loot a Whole Foods, but none for those who loot the public treasury, commit stock market swindles or financial fraud on a monumental scale.

America is now a pay-to-play paradise of greed and corruption.

Washington's obsession with ethics and promoting national unity, we are forced to weep for the pathetic, venal scum that passes for "Leadership" in America today.

Trump Set To Designate Antifa as Terrorist Organization

In the aftermath of riots that appeared to have hijacked peaceful protests over the death of George Floyd, President Donald Trump announced on Twitter on Sunday that the left-wing "Anti-fascist" coalition known as antifa will be designated as a terrorist organization.

"The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization," Trump wrote.

Designating antifa as a terrorist organization would increase the ability of law enforcement agencies such as the FBI to conduct surveillance and other activities targeted at its affiliates.

Trump, who has threatened to act against groups in the past, cited antifa for igniting riots in another Sunday tweet.

"Congratulations to our National Guard for the great job they did immediately upon arriving in Minneapolis, Minnesota, last night. The ANTIFA led anarchists, among others, were shut down quickly. Should have been done by Mayor on first night and there would have been no trouble!" he tweeted.

George Floyd, Antifa, And Terrorism

The Trump administration says it's going to declare Antifa to be a terrorist organization.

Politico reported in 2017 that the Department of Homeland Security "Classified their activities as 'domestic terrorist violence.'" But an even more more official classification of Antifa as a domestic terrorist group "Bestows a new class of investigatory powers on the Department of Justice," says the Pacific Standard.

Because Antifa is leaderless, investigating and prosecuting its crimes is a tall hurdle for law enforcement because the focus has to be on individuals maiming and pillaging under the Antifa flag.

Novelist, lawyer, retired Army colonel, and columnist Kurt Schlicter has tweeted an open memo to the White House outlining how a terrorist designation for Antifa would work.

"The pressure point for the Antifa terrorists is federal law-enforcement. Federal law criminalizes their use of interstate organizational activities. Fed is not under the control of leftist DAs, police chiefs & mayors. For too long you had Democrat cities pulling back police & releasing rioters immediately w/o serious charges."

"A portion of Antifa movement members are willing to commit crimes to promote their beliefs," says the Congressional Research Service, and have "a willingness to engage in criminality - taking the law into their own hands - when confronting their foes or expressing their own ideas."

He not long ago tweeted a photo of himself holding an Antifa handbook, saying he had "Just found the book that strike fear in the heart of" Trump.

Accused Molotov cocktail hurler is Ivy League-educated lawyer

An Ivy League-educated lawyer and member of a Brooklyn community board was among those arrested for hurling a Molotov cocktail at a marked NYPD vehicle amid George Floyd protests, it was revealed Sunday.

Colinford Mattis, 32, was allegedly behind the wheel of a tan minivan as his passenger, fellow attorney Urooj Rahman, allegedly hurled the incendiary at an empty NYPD vehicle outside the 88th Precinct stationhouse in Fort Greene early Saturday.

Mattis, a graduate of Princeton University and the New York University School of Law, is an associate at corporate Manhattan firm Pryor Cashman.

Brooklyn Community Board 5 in East New York lists Mattis as one of its members, though the board's president and reps didn't immediately return calls Sunday.

It's unclear how she and Mattis know each other.

"No rational human being can ever believe that hurling firebombs at police officers and vehicles is justified," said Brooklyn US Attorney Richard Donaghue.

Pryor Cashman said Mattis' employment status will be reviewed "As we obtain further information this week."

Biden, Democrats Planning for Trillions in Tax Increases

Striking a contrast to the Trump administration, Democrats behind Joe Biden's campaign believe higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations will not slow economic recovery, planning "Significant income redistribution" as soon as 2021, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Democrats want to store the taxes on the wealthy and corporations in order to bring more revenue for government spending in the wake of coronavirus impact payments and bailouts, per the report.

"It's all the more important to protect the retirement and security of working [people] and make sure the wealthy pay their fair share," Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., who would become Finance Committee chairman if Democrats gain control of the Senate, told the Journal.

President Donald Trump has promoted his once-thriving economy as benefiting from the 2017 tax reform bill that cut corporate taxes, spurring business investment and growth.

Biden wants to return to the Obama administration's tax policies, including raising the corporate tax rate up from 21% to 28%, per the report.

"Joe will come in with a more progressive economic policy than we have seen from a Democrat in a long time," Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., the top Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee, told the Journal.

"Raising taxes on the wealthy and big corporations to help support public investments in things like child care or education promotes economic growth," the progressive Roosevelt Institute's Bharat Ramamurti told the Journal.

Another Potential Risk from China

If Taiwan declares independence it might be enough to light the fuse because China has long declared that any such efforts would be met by force.

The trouble is any attempt by China to quell Taipei by such means risking a global conflict start because there is little chance of limiting the issue to a localized invasion across the Taiwan strait.
