The Weeklong FBI Investigation Into Kavanaugh Accusations, Shifting Goalposts, And Hillary Clinton’s Emails

An FBI investigation: It’s all they wanted, don’t you know. Repeatedly. Ad nauseum. From Sens Cory Booker to Amy Klobuchar, it was the relentless talking point Democratic Senate Judiciary Committee members harped on over and over again in their questioning of Judge Kavanaugh on Thursday. And it worked, to some extent, to score pretty much the only mildly significant PR points they were able to score against an otherwise brilliant performance by Judge Kavanaugh on Thursday.

Their reasoning went something like (read in your best snake voice ...): ‘Why, Judge Kavanaugh, if you are innocent, why wouldn’t you want, nay DEMAND, the FBI to conduct a full investigation into the 36-year-old claims against you when you were a high school student? It’s not like you’ve got anything to lose since, well, you’re innocent - or you say you are anyway. You DO want to clear your name, don’t you?’

It sounds logical, on the surface at least, which is why Democrats kept rolling with it (Give them a break, will you? Normally even the appearance of logic is lacking from anything liberals say, so can you blame them for latching onto this like a Schnauzer to a new chew toy). 

Judge Kav kept responding by asserting his innocence and stating that he would do anything the committee wanted him to do. Yet he couldn’t, or wouldn’t, state the obvious, likely because of how it would have been perceived and pounced upon by partisans looking for a bone to chew. The obvious being that who in their right mind, knowing they are innocent, would willingly invite the FBI or any other law enforcement agency into their life to investigate something they KNOW they didn’t do? Especially when the only basis behind the allegations is someone lying or misremembering something and, because of the extreme cold-case nature of the accusation and the lack of any specific time or place, the near impossibility of proving one’s innocence (Yes, despite the absurd, Owellian insistence of Senators Blumenthal and Coons, who have zero qualms about turning thousands of years of Anglo-Saxon jurisprudence on its head by claiming the accused should prove the accuser wrong).

Rachel Mitchell Memo Highlights Weaknesses In Ford Testimony, Exonerates Kavanaugh

Rachel Mitchell, the veteran sex crimes prosecutor who was chosen by the GOP to question Christine Ford and Brett Kavanaugh, sent a memo to Republican senators calling Ford's allegations a "He said, she said" case that "Is even weaker than that."

Dr. Ford "Has struggled to identify Judge Kavanaugh as the assailant by name."

She did note that Ford's husband "Claims to recall that she identified Judge Kavanaugh by name in 2012" and added "In any event, it took Dr. Ford over thirty years to name her assailant. Delayed disclosure of abuse is common so this is not dispositive."

Mitchell pointed out that Ford "Does remember small, distinct details from the party unrelated to the assault. For example, she testified that she had exactly one beer at the party and was taking no medication at the time of the alleged assault."

Mitchell wrote that Dr. Ford has named three people other than Judge Kavanaugh who attended the party - Mark Judge, Patrick PJ Smyth, and her lifelong friend Leland Keyser, formerly Ingham.

Mitchell wrote that Ford wrote in her letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein that she had heard Kavanaugh and Mark Judge talking to other partygoers downstairs while hiding in the bathroom after the alleged assault but testified that she could not hear them talking to anyone.

Democrats were not looking for evidence because they had convicted Kavanaugh before the whole charade even started. After Christine Blasey Ford's completed her testimony they pampered her by praising her bravery, apologizing for the suffering she and her family endured, making her a national hero for abused women and elevating her to near saint status. Their 5 minute questions were testamonials to her rather than questions. No evidence was offered to corroborate her charges.  In fact before she even spoke her named witnesses to the alleged assault had denied under penalty of perjury any knowledge of the alleged assault. They were the only ones who could have backed up her charges. The hired prosecutor who questioned her in behalf of Republican senators asked probing question but got little of substance in return. Ford was inconsistent and could not explain even a number of simple gaps in her account. It was a sham. But the Democrat senators loved it.  In contrast they treated Kavanaugh like a criminal.  Their questions, often redundant, kept asserting that Ford's charges were legitimate and Kavanaugh would do everyone a favor by owning up to his crime. They relentlessly peppered him with ridiculous claims Ford had cast. Three Republican Senators rightfully chastised their Democrat colleagues for their disgusting behavior throughout the whole Kavanaugh charade.  Their truthful remarks did not sit with the Democrats.  Someone on Capital Hill proved just how unethical, hateful and irresponsible and politically dirty Democrats are. The Sunday "news" shows were all aflutter regarding the whole Democrat fabricated mess.  The undercurrent in most were posturing the hope that the latest FBI investigation would produce evidence of the dirty "truth" that the Trump nominated miscreant would finally emerge to oust Kavanaugh.  They fear him because he threatens their dream of a left wing friendly Supreme Court. Of course they did not voice their objections that way but, as the history of their past ten years suggests, that is their full intent.

Senator Feinstein  may also face consequences after the stunts she pulled during the Kavanaugh fiasco. She withheld Ford's letter citing charges for weeks and only revealed it after the hearings were over. Trump cites 'historic' trade pact with Canada, Mexico

President Donald Trump on Monday took credit for salvaging a trilateral free trade accord with Canada and Mexico, marking it as a victory in his campaign to reshape global commerce as financial markets breathed a sigh of relief.

The deal, announced on Sunday, is a reworking of the 1994 North American Free Trade Agreement, which underpins $1.2 trillion in trade between the three countries.

While changing NAFTA and bringing down U.S. trade deficits was a top Trump campaign pledge, Sunday's agreement largely leaves the broader deal intact and maintains supply chains that would have been fractured under weaker bilateral deals.

He is scheduled to speak to reporters at noon EDT.The pact preserved a key trade dispute settlement mechanism sought by Canada even as Ottawa agreed to open up its dairy markets to U.S. farmers.

The deal effectively maintains the current auto sector and largely spares Canada and Mexico from the prospect of U.S. tariffs on their vehicles, although it will make it harder for global auto makers to build cars cheaply in Mexico.

Trump vowed during his 2016 presidential campaign to tear up current U.S. trade deals, which he blamed for a loss of American manufacturing jobs.

U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, a Kansas Republican who oversees the Senate's agricultural committee, said he was "Eager to review the details" of the deal and noted the outsized role trade with Canada and Mexico had on rural U.S. states like his.
