A large group of around 500 teenagers caused chaos at a Burger King and a supermarket in Aurora, Colorado, on Sunday. This incident was linked to an unpermitted sporting event organized through social media.
The disturbance began around 1:30 p.m. and involved teenagers mostly aged 14 to 17.
Video footage shows the crowd shouting, standing on tables, and fighting among themselves in the Burger King.
As the situation escalated, some individuals vandalized property and stole items from businesses.
More than 70 police officers were dispatched to restore order, and the assembly was declared unlawful.
Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain highlighted that the police response diverted resources from other emergencies in the community.
He emphasized the need for parents to monitor their children's activities, especially regarding social media invitations.
The police are continuing to investigate the incident, reviewing footage to identify those involved in criminal activities.
Similar "teen takeovers" have been problematic in various U.S. cities in recent years.
The chaotic teen takeover in Aurora serves as a reminder of the responsibilities of both youths and their guardians regarding group behavior and the impact of social media organization. The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to hold accountable those involved in the disturbances.
