IRS Allows Hamas Non-Profit to Operate Even After FBI Bust

The Justice Department announced charges against Reda Mazen Rida Sabassi, a 38-year-old from San Diego, California. He faces accusations related to terrorism, fraud, money laundering, and false statements.

● Sabassi allegedly misused social media and crowdfunding to solicit donations, claiming to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza.

● Instead of helping the intended beneficiaries, he was actually fundraising for Hamas, a designated terrorist organization.

● He established a charity named Ikram — The Arab Charity Foundation Inc., and coordinated with co-conspirators to raise funds online.

● Between late 2023 and early 2024, Sabassi reportedly raised approximately $600,000 and transferred about $116,000 to a Hamas member. He also tried converting around $382,000 into cryptocurrency for Hamas.

● His charity's operations raised concerns, as it should not have been allowed to function due to inadequate paperwork and federal seizures related to an FBI investigation.

The situation highlights issues with oversight from the IRS, as Sabassi's charity remains eligible for tax-deductible contributions despite ongoing legal challenges and investigations.
