Keir Starmer is a worse PM than Neville Chamberlain

Stephen Pollard, Keir Starmer's leadership as Prime Minister is contrasted with that of Neville Chamberlain, highlighting concerns regarding national security and defense funding in the UK.

1. Resignation Over National Security: Starmer's Defence Secretary and Armed Forces Minister recently resigned, citing Starmer and the Chancellor's failure to adequately fund the armed services, potentially jeopardizing national security.

2. Comparative Analysis with Chamberlain: Pollard argues that Starmer could be regarded as a worse leader than Chamberlain, who historically resigned over similar national security issues. Chamberlain is known for his policy of appeasement towards Hitler, which weakened Britain’s defense posture.

3. Nato Funding Performance: The UK's current defense funding is inadequate, ranking 31st out of 32 NATO countries in fulfilling rearmament commitments, with only Iceland below, which has no military.

4. Lack of Substantial Action: Despite seeking praise for verbal support of Ukraine, Starmer's actions do not reflect a commitment to increase UK defense capabilities, which are currently insufficient to meet existing challenges.

5. Chamberlain's Approach to Defense Spending: Pollard notes that Chamberlain, despite criticism, recognized the importance of rearmament and increased defense spending significantly before WWII, while Starmer appears unable to follow through with necessary funding despite acknowledging its importance.

6. Weakness in Leadership: Pollard depicts Starmer’s leadership as weak, having folded under pressure from his own MPs regarding policy decisions, leading to a series of ineffective responses to internal opposition.

Pollard concludes that while Chamberlain's legacy involves criticisms of appeasement, Starmer's leadership is characterized by inaction and complacency regarding essential national defense issues, which may ultimately prove detrimental to the UK's security interests.
