Republicans target China as security threat to U.S. real estate, schools, farmland

Concerns Over Chinese Influence in the U. S.

With the decline of the southern border crisis, the Trump administration and Republicans are now focusing on China as a significant threat to U. S. security.

• China has increased its influence in various sectors, including real estate, education, and agriculture.

• Reports indicate that Chinese nationals made up 15% of foreign homebuyers in the U. S. from April 2024 to March 2025, purchasing $13.7 billion in real estate.

• Concerns have arisen regarding Chinese exchange students involved in espionage and other illegal activities at U. S. universities.

• Chinese investors control over 277,335 acres of U. S. farmland, raising national security issues.

• Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has launched an action plan to safeguard American agriculture.

• Sen. Josh Hawley and Rep. Mary Miller have proposed the Protecting Our Farms and Homes from China Act, which would ban CCP-affiliated individuals from buying agricultural land and require divestment from existing properties.

Republicans emphasize preventing China from undermining U. S. food production and land ownership.
