South Dakota has doubled down on its efforts to help secure the southern border.
Gov. Kristi Noem announced on Wednesday that she's approved the deployment of 125 additional National Guard members to help combat the Biden border crisis.
The troops are set to be deployed later this year and will provide non-law enforcement support to U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents.
This comes a week after the governor announced the deployment of up to 50 National Guard troops to Texas in order to help secure the U.S.-Mexico border.
Ian Fury, a spokesman for Noem, said in a statement that "Securing the border is not a 'political gesture'" and that the deployment was necessary because "Unfortunately the Biden administration has failed to step up and fix this crisis."
Gov. Noem praised South Dakota's National Guardsmen for their service and said they are prepared to respond to the national security crisis.
