On Thursday Georgia officials agreed to the request for a statewide signature matching review from President Trump and his legal team.
In a move which is hoped to be seen as a way to rebuild trust in the election process, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced via a written statement that a statewide effort to review signatures for absentee ballots in all one hundred and fifty nine counties in the state will be launched soon and that the University of Georgia will be a partner in the effort.
"Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced this week that the Office of the Secretary of State would be partnering with the University of Georgia on a statewide review of signature match in the Peach State. The partnership will help instill confidence in Georgia's absentee ballot system in future elections."
"We are confident that elections in Georgia are secure, reliable, and effective," said Raffensperger in the statement.
"Despite endless lawsuits and wild allegations from Washington, D.C. pundits, we have seen no actual evidence of widespread voter fraud, though we are investigating all credible reports. Nonetheless, we look forward to working with the University of Georgia on this signature match review to further instill confidence in Georgia's voting systems."
Along with the University of Georgia, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation will help in the signature study effort, and the audit is expected to wrap up in two weeks.
This major announcement comes less than three weeks before the Georgia Senate runoff elections on January 5th, 2021 which will determine which party holds the majority in the United States Senate.
