Readers
beware! Not all science reporting is trustworthy. Quote:
"Conventional science bloggers, take notice. You’re working in a field
where studies supporting the general consensus are tainted and stained.
Starting sentences with “the FDA approves” or “the CDC confirms” or “a
study published in The New England Journal established” isn’t a ticket
to the truth. Far from it." https://jonrappoport.wordpress.com/2015/08/25/to-science-bloggers-living-with-mommy/
Take note of this. When politicians pay to have scientists produce what they want, bad things happen. This item explains. http://spectator.org/articles/63925/president%E2%80%99s-clean-energy-farce
For
some years now I have read differing accounts addressing the use of
fluoride in water. The most prominent version regards successful
collusion between the government and industry placed fluoride in water
is discussed in these two items. Our government says it is a good thing
but the science they use to back that up seems a bit dubious and
certainly other national governments have a differing opinion and
seemingly for good reason. http://patriotpowerednews.com/increasing-fluoride-levels-in-drinking-water-by-just-1-can-cause-131000-adhd-cases-study-shows/ and http://www.naturalnews.com/050183_fluoride_chemicals_drinking_water_Ethiopia.html
This
social science piece is most interesting. Quote: Based on the "...the
Haidt report, it sounds like social science at times amounts to
political activism of special pleading masquerading as objective
science, and benefiting from the respect society gives to science,
precisely because science is believed to be unbiased. If journalism had a
few smart, principled liberals like Jon Haidt and his colleagues on the
Heterodox Academy project,
men and women who were willing to speak out against the biases in the
field and how it damages the field, we would be much better off." http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/the-lefts-bad-social-science-jonathan-haidt/
The theme of poor
management/oversight of taxpayer funded scientific research continues to
expand. This item is just one more example. http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/aug/27/golden-hammer-poorly-monitored-science-research-wa/
