Schumer Falsely Claims There Have Been 'No Witnesses, No Documents' During Impeachment

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer was noticeably outraged by the Senate's vote Friday against compelling more witnesses and documents, calling it a "Tragedy on a very large scale."

"No witnesses, no documents in an impeachment trial is a perfidy. It is a grand tragedy. One of the worst tragedies that the Senate has overcome. America will remember this day" Schumer added.

The only real tragedy was the mockery that House Democrats made of their impeachment inquiry when Adam Schiff refused to allow Republicans to call any of their own witnesses.

Let's examine the "No documents, no witnesses" lie further.

Jenna Ellis, a constitutional law attorney and the senior legal advisor to the Trump 2020 campaign, destroyed the Schumer lie by breaking down impeachment by the numbers on Twitter.

Does that look like "No witnesses, no documents" to you? Who really blocked witnesses, Republicans or Democrats? Schumer should direct his anger at House Democrats for botching their impeachment.

The only tragedy here is that Democrats put us through a sham, partisan impeachment and wasted time that could have been spent doing the business of the American people.

Second Chinese City Bars Residents From Leaving Their Homes, Apple Closes All Offices & Stores In China

We got some interesting corporate news overnight: Apple announced early Saturday that it would close all of its stores and offices in China at least through Feb. 9.

Already, the factories of many of its suppliers have been impacted by holiday "Extensions" that will keep them closed through at least early Feb. As of midday on Saturday, at least 19 provinces, municipalities and regions have told businesses not to resume work before Feb. 10 at the earliest, according to CNBC, which also noted that Disney, Tesla several US airlines and myriad other American business have suspended operations in China.

Apple is closing ALL stores, corporate offices, and contact centers in China due to Coronavirus through Feb. 9, company says in statement.

When the WHO first declared that travel restrictions on China simply weren't necessary, even as Beijing quarantined more than 50 million of its own people, we wondered how the organization could possibly expect the world to listen, considering that Russia had already closed its border with China, and dozens of countries had already imposed some kind of restriction, while more than 40 airlines had suspended routes to China.

Then we heard Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam tell the people that complete shutdown of travel to China wouldn't be necessary.

The reason? To pressure the city government to close all borders with mainland China.

Walking around without a protective face mask? Well, you can't avoid these sharp-tongued drones! Many village and cities in China are using drones equipped with speakers to patrol during the #coronavirus outbreak.

UK Came & Went, Leaving Europe in a Mess

As Great Britain returns to the uncertainties of the open sea, it leaves behind a European Union that is bureaucratically governed to serve the interests of financial capital, writes Diana Johnstone.

Finally, at last, the United Kingdom is formally leaving the European Union on Jan. 31.

Because years of British membership have already helped shatter the original dreams of a united Europe, whether the aspirations of the federalists for political unity or the project of a European confederation of independent states advocated by Charles De Gaulle some 60 years ago.

The remark has become famous: in 1944, on the eve of the Normandy invasion, in a quarrelsome exchange, U.K. Prime Minister Winston Churchill reportedly told De Gaulle that if Britain had to choose, it would always go for "The open sea" rather than the European continent.

Sixty years ago, De Gaulle, who envisaged a European confederation as a way to achieve independence from the American liberators, saw very clearly that the U.K. would be America's Trojan horse in the European community.

Curiously enough, the ardent European federalists joined in promoting British membership, seemingly unaware that such membership was totally incompatible with the political unity they desired.

Even the ardent fans of European Unity increasingly insist that they want "a different Europe," recognizing that the project has failed to produce the wonders that were promised.

Has The FBI Been Lying About Seth Rich?

A persistent American lawyer has uncovered the undeniable fact that the FBI has been continuously lying, including giving false testimony in court, in response to Freedom of Information requests for its records on Seth Rich.

The FBI has previously given affidavits that it has no records regarding Seth Rich.

A Freedom of Information request to the FBI which did not mention Seth Rich, but asked for all email correspondence between FBI Head of Counterterrorism Peter Strzok, who headed the investigation into the DNC leaks and Wikileaks, and FBI attorney Lisa Page, has revealed two pages of emails which do not merely mention Seth Rich but have "Seth Rich" as their heading.

The redacted individual officer is "Not aware of any specific involvement" by the FBI in the Seth Rich case.

If it just all said "Assange is talking nonsense. Seth Rich is nothing to do with the FBI" then why would that have to be sent on by Strzok to the FBI lawyer?

The FBI here believed Wikileaks to be indicating the material had been leaked by Seth Rich who had then been murdered.

If the FBI really did not look at that, why on earth not? If the FBI genuinely, as they claim, did not even look at the murder of Seth Rich, that would surely be the most damning fact of all and reveal their "Investigation" was entirely agenda driven from the start.

The Myth of the "Electable" Democrat: Neoliberal Bankruptcy, 2020 Edition

Democrats are "More diverse," drawing support from "a coalition of liberal whites, African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and mixed-race voters," in addition to "Liberal and nonwhite Christians, Jews, Muslims, New Agers, agnostics, Buddhists, and so onwinning the Democratic primary means winning liberal whites in New Hampshire and traditionalist blacks in South Carolina. It means talking to Irish Catholics in Boston and atheists in San Francisco." In contrast, Klein points out that the Republican Party is primarily comprised of white voters, with "Three-quarters of Republicans identify[ing] as conservative, while only half of Democrats call themselves liberals."

I'm intimately the narrative of the "Electable" neoliberal Democrat in my own line of work as a professor.

Bernie Sanders' rise in the 2016 Democratic primary provides more evidence to challenge traditional neoliberal notions of "Electability." As I've documented, the mainstreaming of Sanders' progressive agenda was revealed in polling at the time, which found that one quarter of Democrats in 2016 believed Sanders' identification as a "Democratic socialist" made him more electable, while less than one in ten felt it made him less so, and with two-thirds who thought it made "No difference." In other words, 90 percent of Democrats felt the "Socialism" stigma was irrelevant to their political calculations.

Such sentiment undermines the notion that only neoliberal Democrats can appeal to voters.

Looking at the 2016 election, we see the poverty behind the claim that Americans thirst for a neoliberal Democrat.

Looking at the 2020 Democratic primaries, we again see the limits of Democratic centrism.

Pete Buttigieg, a neoliberal Democrat if there ever was one, receives virtually no support from people of color and from the less educated.

Why Is Amazon Alexa Telling People the Wrong Date for Trump's State of the Union Address?

If you're looking forward to watching President Trump's upcoming State of the Union address but don't know when it is, do not ask any Amazon Alexa devices.

"The next State of the Union will occur on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 9 p.m.".

The next State of the Union is actually on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.

Does Amazon not want people to watch Trump's State of the Union address? How could they possibly get such an easy question wrong?

The date of the State of the Union address was finalized back in December, two days after House Democrats voted to impeach President Trump.

It's been nearly a month and a half since the date was set, and Amazon has been telling people the wrong date this whole time? There's no excuse for that.

It's almost as though Amazon doesn't want people to watch Trump's State of the Union.
