Releasing More Call Transcripts Will Cripple Future Presidents

A few breaths after grousing that Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani "Seems to think I'm judge and jury here," House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, the California Democrat, almost comically delivered the verdict, telling ABC News on Sunday that "What we have seen already is damning" and falsely claiming that in his July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Trump used "The full weight of his office with a country beholden to America for its defense to try to coerce that leader to manufacture dirt on his opponent and interfere in our election." A few sentences later, Schiff said what Trump did in the phone call was "Ask for foreign interference in our election."

On its board sat his son Hunter Biden, as his firm "Received regular transfers into one of its accounts - usually more than $166,000 a month - from Burisma from spring 2014 through fall 2015, during a period when Vice President Biden was the main U.S. official dealing with Ukraine and its tense relations with Russia."

Even more stretching came from Senate Foreign Relations Committee Democrat Chris Murphy of Connecticut, who on Sunday told CBS News, "There's an implicit threat in every demand that the president of the United States makes." If you accept that assertion, there isn't a president in history whose private communications could have withstood the scrutiny of his political opponents.

The Zelensky call provides no evidence of wrongdoing, and so Schiff promises, "We're gonna find out what other communications were also improperly hidden in this classified system that's meant to contain the most highly sensitive, classified information involving covert action, not the president's misconduct."

He has something more: a solemn responsibility to preserve for future presidents the ability to conduct candid discussions with foreign allies, friends - even enemies.

A president must be able to engage in "Persuasion, badgering, flattery, threats, reminders of past favors and future advantages," as the Washington Post's Mary McGrory described Lyndon Johnson's no-holds-barred style of leadership even before becoming president.

Trump or any other president allowing Congress to fish around in classified White House computer systems would be a direct threat to future presidents' ability to use the office to protect the country.

Democrats' impeachment drive serves their needs, not the country's

Dems have had an impeachment itch they have been desperate to scratch ever since President Trump took office.

The risk of Trump's heavy-handed request - an aid package to Ukraine was being held up - was that the Ukrainians would have felt compelled to manufacture dirt on the Bidens.

Trump's ask of Zelensky wasn't extortion or a campaign-finance violation under any rational interpretation of our statues.

Unless there is a thermonuclear revelation, impeachment will be an exercise in futility, inevitably ending with Trump's Senate acquittal.

Democrats can point to the precedent of the Clinton impeachment.

If Trump had flagrantly and repeatedly perjured himself, he would have been impeached long ago.

Tens of millions of Trump voters would feel cheated and disenfranchised, and the roiling populism that Trump tapped into would grow stronger, not dissipate.

A Look At The Latest Fiasco 2

Suspicions are growing that something is badly awry with the whistleblower complaint upon which Democrats without any verifying efforts to vet the complaint still used it to launch their ongoing Impeachment Inquiry. The Whistleblower claims that Trump may have committed a violation of law during a conversation with the President of Ukraine.  This item by an expert in these matters provides his thoughts.  Quote: "I am troubled by the complaint and wonder how an intelligence officer could file it over something a president said to a foreign leader. This piece offers a view of what impeachment should be about.  It is no where close to what, with no supporting rationale, the Democrats are doing and have been trying to do to Trump even before he took the Oath of Office.  Quote: "Even before he was sworn into office, President Trump’s political opponents were talking impeachment. This puts a fine point on the evil that has overtaken the Democrats. Even a top flight Democrat operative says this impeachment effort is all fake news designed to destroy Trump. The title of this piece tells the story. Read this and you will understand just why the Democrats are in a panic. Of course Mueller never recused himself from the Trump-Russia sham investigation due to his activities in the Ukraine.  Meanwhile, Manafort rots in prison for his actions in the Ukraine working with Hillary Clinton’s Campaign Manager John Podesta.  Mueller even gave Podesta’s brother Tony immunity during his corrupt ‘witch hunt’. But this was just a small part of the corruption and pillaging of the Ukraine by the Democrat Party leaders.”  And,  "So the Clintons, Obama, the Bidens, Mueller, the Podestas and the Atlantic Council all were involved in the Ukraine.  But this is just the tip of the iceberg.  The IMF also had shady dealings with the Ukraine related to these same Democrats."   And, "Also serving on the International Advisory Board of the Atlantic Council is James Clapper, who served as Obama’s Director of National Intelligence. Funnily enough, Bongino discovered that the Chief Technology Officer of “the only company that investigated the hacking of the DNC’s servers and quickly determined it was the Russians, is a nonresident senior fellow in cybersecurity” at the Atlantic Council. Hillary is allowed to pass government and classified emails over her private email system making them available for reading by our adversaries but military personnel and other lesser people are sent to jail for things far less egregious.  Here's another example.  The Obama administration and Hillary can actually dig up dirt, even if faked and pay for it to use against American citizens running for office if they oppose them.  But Democrats claim no way can Trump do the same thing and must be impeached if accused of doing so even if proven that he didn't do it.  Here's another current one.  Democrats can collude with other countries and even threaten them with retaliatory action, if they do not comply.  That is what Joe Biden actually did while serving as Vice President.  But President Trump cannot even ask the Ukrainian President to look into the matter because Democrats immediately start conducting investigations and charged him with committing treason and launching an impeachment inquiry. There are plenty more examples but I am sure you get the idea.
