Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has filed a lawsuit against Pfizer and its CEO, Albert Bourla. The lawsuit claims that the company misled consumers about the safety and effectiveness of its COVID-19 vaccine.
The lawsuit alleges that Pfizer assured consumers that the vaccine was safe while not revealing potential risks such as heart inflammation and other adverse effects.
Pfizer is accused of promoting the vaccine by encouraging people to get vaccinated to protect others, despite not testing whether the vaccine prevents virus transmission.
The state claims Pfizer engaged in unfair market practices, alleging that the company made over $80 billion from vaccine sales and then increased its price significantly from $30 to $110-$130 per dose in 2023.
Florida seeks to enforce consumer protection laws, aiming for a court order to cease Pfizer’s alleged misconduct, impose fines of $10,000 per violation, $15,000 for cases involving seniors or disabled individuals, and the return of profits.
Pfizer has responded, stating that the claims lack merit and that the safety and efficacy of its vaccine are backed by science.
The legal action against Pfizer highlights concerns over vaccine safety claims and pricing practices, with the Florida Attorney General emphasizing consumer protection.
