New Evidence Suggests FBI Agent Involved With Crossfire Hurricane Was Foreign Spy

The U. S. Department of Justice has reopened an investigation into Charles McGonigal, a former top FBI counterespionage agent. He previously worked as the Special Agent in Charge of Counterintelligence in New York, left the FBI in 2018, and was convicted for corruption in 2023.

• McGonigal pled guilty to corruption-related crimes, receiving a six-and-a-half-year prison sentence and a $40,000 fine, but he was not charged with espionage.

• He was involved in the controversial CROSSFIRE HURRICANE operation targeting Donald Trump and his supporters in 2016.

• Evidence suggests that McGonigal may have accepted illicit funds from Albanian businessmen and had connections to a sanctioned Russian oligarch.

• There are suspicions regarding how he was labeled a target for foreign intelligence agencies, given his crucial role within the FBI.

• On April 30, U. S. Attorney Ed Martin expressed renewed interest in McGonigal's case, indicating that new information had emerged that required further investigation.

• Questions remain regarding McGonigal’s conduct while working at Brookfield Asset Management and whether it involved espionage.

The reopening of McGonigal's case raises issues about loyalty and integrity within the FBI. Concerns persist about potential espionage and misconduct involving him, and the investigation may provide insight into foreign intelligence infiltration within the Bureau. The future inquiries may uncover more details about McGonigal's actions and their implications for the FBI.
