Miranda Devine: FBI emails revealed to The Post expose Biden DOJ’s obsession with piling on Trump charges

Recent internal FBI emails indicate that some agents and prosecutors were actively seeking ways to charge former President Donald Trump in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot. These communications, revealed by Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to the New York Post, suggest partisan motives behind the Trump investigations during President Joe Biden's administration.

1. Emails Reveal Seeking New Charges:

In emails from March 2023, prosecutor JP Cooney expressed interest in investigating Trump's role in a project involving a choir comprised of January 6 defendants. This inquiry was reportedly sparked by a Forbes article about Trump collaborating with these individuals.

2. Involvement of Other Figures:

Cooney noted in his email that Trump had recorded the Pledge of Allegiance and that other figures were also involved. His correspondence suggested further investigation into potential legal action against those connected to this choir effort.

3. Allegations of Misconduct by Agents:

FBI agent Walter Giardina was mentioned as leading the investigation into Trump and previously participated in controversial FBI actions against Trump allies, suggesting a pattern of overzealous investigation tactics.

4. Grassley’s Concerns About Weaponization:

Senator Grassley criticized the FBI and DOJ for what he perceives as politicized investigations aimed at Trump's detriment. He argues that these efforts distract from the agencies’ primary law enforcement responsibilities.

5. Failed Charges Against Trump:

Despite the extensive investigation, charges such as conspiracy and obstruction did not result in action against Trump, especially given his victory in the 2024 election, leading to dropped cases.

6. Whistleblower Testimonies:

Grassley has pointed to whistleblower accounts that suggest a disregard for due process in the inquiries against Trump, as well as a broader intent to discredit him politically.

7. Transparency Efforts by Grassley:

Grassley and FBI director Kash Patel are working to uncover more documents related to these investigations. They emphasize a commitment to restoring transparency within the FBI and DOJ.

The uncovered emails hint at a potential abuse of power and political bias within the DOJ and FBI in their investigations of Donald Trump. Grassley’s actions emphasize the importance of accountability and transparency in federal agencies. The failure of these investigations raises concerns about the integrity and impartiality of legal proceedings against political figures.
