Biden is ratcheting up the Russia-Ukraine war on his way out the door and sabotaging Trump’s efforts to secure a peace deal.
The same day Ukraine fired into Russia, Biden authorized the shipment of antipersonnel land mines to Kyiv — a policy he once called “reckless.” The Pentagon subsequently announced the next day that $275 million worth of supplies and weapons would be shipped to the Eastern European state.
As noted by The New York Times, the decision “is a major change in U.S. policy,” and represents the first time Biden has given Ukraine the green light to deploy U.S.-supplied weapons for such a purpose.
According to CNBC, the purported attack came the same day Moscow updated its nuclear doctrine, clarifying “that any aggression against Russia by a non-nuclear state, if it’s supported by a nuclear power, will be considered as a joint attack,” and seemingly lowering the threshold to deploy nuclear weapons.
In acknowledgement of this incoming shift in U.S. diplomacy, Zelensky indicated a willingness on Saturday — a day before Biden authorized the use of long-range missiles — to end the war “by diplomatic means” next year.
