War Department drops $10M for skilled trades program

The U. S. Department of War has awarded a $10 million contract to support skilled trades training for veterans through the mikeroweWORKS Foundation.

● The contract was awarded to Mike Rowe, known for the show "Dirty Jobs," to fund scholarships for veterans pursuing trades like plumbing, electrical work, and welding.

● The initiative, BuildFreedom. US, connects veterans with job opportunities and educational resources in skilled trades.

● Demand for these jobs is high, requiring no college degree, with potential for lucrative careers.

● Skilled trades employment is expected to grow significantly from 2024 to 2034.

● Rowe’s foundation has already trained over 2,600 workers and aims to challenge stereotypes against trades jobs.

● He emphasized the need to reconsider traditional college paths to avoid workforce imbalances.

Rowe expressed gratitude for the Pentagon's support and committed to using the funds for scholarships to promote skilled trades.
