How Processed Foods Are Dismantling American Health
By Staff Writer
The United States is in the grip of a health catastrophe that no government agency, no medical institution, and no major media outlet has been willing to name directly. It is not a virus. It is not a genetic epidemic. It is the food supply itself, and the damage it is inflicting on the nation now extends far beyond individual waistlines into the realms of national security, cognitive decline, demographic collapse, and economic decay.
The numbers are not subtle. Roughly three quarters of young Americans aged 17 to 24 are ineligible for military service, with obesity and obesity related conditions as the leading disqualifier. Sperm counts have fallen by more than half since the 1970s. Fertility rates have dropped below replacement in virtually every developed nation. ADHD diagnoses have gone parabolic. Type 2 diabetes, once a disease of old age, now appears in children. And the healthcare system built to manage all of this has become the largest industry in the country, consuming nearly a fifth of the entire economy while delivering outcomes that rank among the worst in the developed world.
The common thread running through all of it is the industrialization of what Americans eat.
For most of human history, people ate food. Single ingredient items that spoiled if left uneaten. Meat, vegetables, fruits, grains in their whole form, dairy, eggs, fermented foods. The human body evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to recognize and metabolize these substances.
