Democrats damn themselves with no-shows at hearing on fraud

A recent Senate Homeland Security Committee meeting on fraud, chaired by Senator Rand Paul, highlighted a significant absence of Democratic participation. Despite the meeting's focus on substantial fraud cases in Medicaid and voting, only one Democrat, Senator Gary Peters, attended.

1. Hearing Overview:

● The Senate meeting aimed to discuss fraud cases, including welfare fraud in Medicaid and voter bribery in Los Angeles.

● Independent journalist Nick Shirley presented findings on abuses by New York adult day cares, while James O’Keefe shared undercover video evidence related to voter bribery on Skid Row.

2. Democratic No-Shows:

● Nearly all Democratic members of the committee chose not to attend the hearing.

● Senator Peters was the only Democrat present, and he left shortly after asking a few questions.

3. Democratic Stance on Fraud:

● Democrats have historically opposed Republican cuts to Medicaid and welfare programs, often labeling anti-fraud measures as harsh.

● Despite their strong opinions on Medicaid and voting issues, their absence raised questions about their confidence in countering Republican claims during the hearing.

4. Concerns Raised:

● The absence suggests that Democrats may feel their arguments are inadequate to defend against the evidence presented by Republicans regarding fraud.

● This behavior could indicate a reluctance to engage in discussions that challenge their established positions on welfare and voting policies.

The lack of Democratic attendance at the Senate hearing on fraud is noteworthy, especially given their vocal opposition to Republican policies on Medicaid and voting. Their choice to boycott the meeting leaves open questions about their ability to effectively challenge the claims presented regarding fraud in these areas.
