Busted! Feds Charge SPLC With Funding Klansmen, Neo-Nazis

The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) faces serious allegations from the U. S. Justice Department, claiming it has financially supported prominent hate groups for years. This development significantly damages the SPLC's reputation.

1. Allegations of Funding Hate Groups: The Justice Department has accused the SPLC of paying millions to well-known racists, including leaders of the Ku Klux Klan and neo-Nazi organizations, over a ten-year period.

2. Financial Maneuvers: The indictment states that the SPLC allegedly created fictitious accounts and used prepaid cards to conceal payments that were traced back to the organization. They are also accused of deceiving donors by promising to combat racism while financially supporting these hate groups.

3. Specific Cases: The indictment notes that one individual, referred to as F-37, who attended the 2017 "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, received over $270,000 from the SPLC. This individual was involved in planning and promoting racist activities.

4. Charges Filed: The SPLC is facing an 11-count indictment that includes charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and providing false information to banks. A grand jury in Montgomery, Alabama, has returned this indictment.

5. Historical Context: The situation draws comparisons to past actions by other organizations, such as the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), which also employed undercover tactics against right-wing groups. However, there was no financial support given to those groups by the ADL.

This indictment marks a significant downfall for the SPLC, which has built its identity upon fighting against hate groups. The current charges suggest a troubling contradiction in their practices, leading to a substantial loss of credibility in the public eye.
