Border agents didn’t release a single illegal migrant into the US last month — down from 62K under Biden

Border control statistics reveal a substantial decline in illegal crossings into the United States. The changes follow the return of Donald Trump to the White House, marking a stark contrast to policies implemented by the Biden administration.

1. Zero Releases of Illegal Migrants:

• Last month, Border Patrol agents reported they did not release any illegal migrants into the U. S. This is a significant drop from May 2024, when 62,000 were allowed entry under the Biden administration.

2. Decrease in Illegal Crossings:

• Agents caught 8,725 migrants crossing illegally at the southern border last month. This figure represents a 93% decrease from the 117,905 apprehended in May 2024.

3. Impact of Trump Administration Policies:

• The acting Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, Pete Flores, credited the decrease to revived Trump administration policies, particularly the end of Biden’s catch-and-release program.

4. Operational Control:

• National Border Patrol Council president Paul Perez suggested that agents are now able to patrol the borders effectively, aiding in gaining full operational control, a goal that was challenging under the previous policies.

5. Statements from Officials:

• Trump’s former border czar, Tom Homan, highlighted that the current illegal crossings are at an all-time low, contrasting sharply with the numbers observed under Biden. He emphasized the need for continued efforts to solidify border security.

6. Historical Context:

• Trump’s approach to immigration and border policy marked a notable shift from Biden’s more lenient stance, resulting in numerous migrants being released into the U. S. under the previous administration.

The enforcement strategies implemented following Trump's return to the presidency have led to a dramatic decrease in illegal border crossings and migrant releases. This change has been welcomed by some border officials and underscores a significant policy shift in U. S. immigration enforcement.
