Blue-Collar Real Wages Experience Monumental Growth Under Trump Administration

During the first five months of Donald Trump’s second term as President, blue-collar workers have experienced a significant increase in real wages, marking a notable economic milestone.

• Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reported nearly a 2 percent real wage growth for blue-collar workers during this period, the first time any president has achieved this level since Richard Nixon in 1969.

• This growth outperformed the 1.3 percent real wage increase observed during Trump’s first term in 2017.

• In contrast, the Biden administration faced negative growth, with a reported decrease of 1.7 percent in real wages for blue-collar jobs during its early months.

• Bessent attributed the wage growth to Trump’s pro-manufacturing policies and stricter immigration controls, suggesting that these strategies have relieved pressure on American workers’ wages.

• U. S. Customs and Border Protection noted a significant reduction in illegal border crossings, with zero illegal aliens released into the U. S. in May under Trump, compared to over 62,000 under Biden during the same month in 2024.

The data suggests that Trump's policies may be contributing to wage increases for blue-collar workers, contrasting sharply with the situation faced during the Biden administration. This economic growth among blue-collar workers is emphasized as a significant policy outcome for Trump's second term.
