Stopgap Funding Bill Includes $7 Billion for Afghans, $1.6 Billion for UACs

Instead of a "Clean" bill that retains the status quo, this bill includes additional funding for the visa-less Afghans the Biden administration allowed into the country after the botched Afghanistan withdrawal.

As framed by House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro, "The includes virtually no changes to existing funding or policy. However, Democrats prevailed in including $7 billion for Afghanistan evacuees."

The press release omits any breakdown of how the $7 billion in taxpayer dollars will be allocated.

The $7 billion will be allocated to the Departments of Defense; Homeland Security, Health and Human Services, and State in support of Operation Allies Welcome.

The remaining $1.26 billion is available through September 30, 2023, for "Refugee and Entrant Assistance" for Afghans paroled into the country.

The bill gives exactly $1.2 billion for the "United States Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund" for Operation Allies Welcome support "Including additional relocations of individuals at risk as a result of the situation in Afghanistan".

Also hidden in the bill is $1.6 billion allocated for unaccompanied alien children who illegally crossed the southern border.
