The White House Correspondents Association announced on Monday that this year's White House Press Dinner will feature presidential biographer Ron Chernow rather than another of the horrible, un-funny "Comedians" that had become its tradition.
Back at the White House - The White House press office fully restored CNN performance artist Jim Acosta's press pass on Monday, resulting in the dismissal of CNN's lawsuit over the matter.
At the discretion of the President or other White House official taking questions, a follow-up question or questions may be permitted; and where a follow up has been allowed and asked, the questioner will then yield the floor.
Yielding the floor" includes, when applicable, physically surrendering the microphone to White House staff for use by the next questioner.
That's all well and good, but basically, the right answer for the White House lies in what I have been advocating in this space since March, 2017: Stop holding formal press briefings, period.
The right thing to do here is to notify the WHCA that the next breach of decorum by an Acosta or April Ryan or any of the other preening peacocks who loiter around the White House grounds each day will result in the immediate suspension of all briefings until the press itself has properly dealt with the offender.
There are myriad ways in today's high-tech society for the White House to satisfy its duty to keep the American people informed of its daily activities on their behalf.
