Buried under the mountain of Obamacare’s rules and regulations is a
$54 million slush fund that’s earmarked for hiring “navigators” to help
guide average citizens through the new health care maze. One might
assume that these “navigators” would be highly-trained individuals who
understand both our healthcare needs and the Obamacare requirements. But
you know what happens when you assume.
Under the new Affordable Care Act, “navigators” will help consumers understand all the different coverage options being offered on the state exchanges. Some navigators must be affiliated with non-profit groups, but none of them have to be affiliated in any way with an insurance agent or broker or Obamacare.
Supporters of the program say it will benefit consumers in underserved areas who may need expert help choosing a health plan. And according to The Hill, navigators will have to “demonstrate expertise in health insurance and take a 20-30 hour online course on ObamaCare.”
