WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. added 192,000 private-sector jobs
in January, ADP estimated Wednesday. Economists polled by MarketWatch
had expected the ADP report to show a gain of 173,000 private-sector
jobs. Some analysts use ADP's data to provide guidance on the U.S.
Department of Labor's private-payroll figure, which will be released
Friday as part of the January unemployment report. In December, ADP
initially reported a gain of 215,000, a miss of 47,000 from the Labor
Department's subsequent private-payroll figure of 168,000. Currently
analysts expect the Labor Department to report that nonfarm employment
rose 163,000 in January, compared with a gain of 155,000 in December.
