Secret Service spent $11 million on Hunter Biden travel detail

The Biden administration has spent over $10 million on security for Hunter Biden, former President Joe Biden's son. This expenditure included travel, hotels, and transportation costs and has raised concerns, especially since similar protections were denied to other political figures.

1. Total Expenditure: The security detail for Hunter Biden cost nearly $11 million from January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2024. This amount includes $9.3 million on hotels, $1.1 million on travel, and nearly $600,000 on transportation.

2. FOIA Request: The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to understand the spending. The request was motivated by Hunter Biden's influential role in advising his father during the White House administration.

3. Locations of Spending: Most expenses, about 95%, were focused in California, with significant costs associated with upscale trips to Nantucket and the Virgin Islands.

4. Specific Costs: Notable expenses included more than half a million dollars for a Thanksgiving trip to Nantucket in 2023 and approximately $372,000 for a New Year’s trip to St. Croix.

5. Policy Concerns: Critics pointed out inconsistencies in protection policies, as the Secret Service denied protection to prominent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., while Hunter Biden received extensive security. There have been past failures in Secret Service protections for Donald Trump.

The documents obtained reveal a significant allocation of taxpayer dollars for Hunter Biden's security, contrasting sharply with the lack of protection for others in similar high-profile positions. This raises questions about the priorities of the Biden administration regarding security and resource management.
