The Venezuelan government has agreed to release six detained Americans, who returned home with Trump envoy Richard Grenell. President Trump announced that Venezuela would also take back tens of thousands of Venezuelan migrants living illegally in the U. S. Trump praised this development on social media and noted the involvement of members of the Tren de Aragua gang in recent U. S. tensions with Venezuela. The arrangement involves transportation for these citizens back to Venezuela.
The release of the Americans is seen as a positive outcome of Grenell's visit, during which he reportedly met with President Maduro. The six men were not named, and the U. S. government has faced complaints from relatives about a lack of information regarding their detained loved ones. One of the released individuals, David Estrella, had been accused by Venezuelan authorities of plotting against Maduro.
Despite having no diplomatic relations with Venezuela and imposing sanctions, the U. S. may be negotiating to ease some of these restrictions in exchange for the return of migrants and oil supply. Freed Americans expressed gratitude to Trump during their flight home.
The U. S. State Department has confirmed that discussions with Venezuela will not change its overall policy towards the country. Trump expects Maduro to take back Venezuelan criminals and gang members who have been sent to the U. S. without any conditions.
