Tracking down monoclonal antibody treatment sites in Florida is easy, but Fed. government controlling supply

Last summer, Florida became was one of the heaviest promoters of monoclonal antibody treatments for its residents infected with Covid-19.

By September, Florida was buying treatments directly from pharmaceutical manufacturers.

There are currently three types of antibody treatments in use for Covid-19 that have been approved by the Federal Drug Administration under an emergency use authorization.

In clinical trials, monoclonal antibody treatment showed a 70% reduction in hospitalization and death... For high-risk patients who have been exposed to someone with Covid-19, Regeneron can give you temporary immunity to decrease your odds of catching the infection by over 80%.'.

Florida's Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, held a press conference on January 3, stating that a brief pause HHS had placed on two of the three treatments December 23 had been lifted and the state is expecting its supply of the antibodies to increase in the days ahead. DeSantis is asking the federal government to send between 30,000 and 40,000 more doses of monoclonal antibody treatments to Florida per week to meet the demand.

Regardless of its effectiveness with Omicron, scientists say the Delta variant is still in wide circulation in Florida, so the monoclonal treatments are in demand.

Florida's Department of Health designed and created an extensive website that allows people to find MAB treatments currently available in their area.
