Longtime Democratic operative Julian Epstein recently criticized New York Attorney General Letitia James for appealing a court decision that overturned a $454 million civil fraud judgment against Donald Trump.
• Epstein appeared on Fox News, expressing that James’ appeal is politically motivated and lacks merit.
• He stated that the previous ruling by a New York appeals court found the civil penalty against Trump excessive and in violation of the Eighth Amendment.
• Epstein referred to James’ continued pursuit of Trump as "doubling down on dumb," asserting that her actions represent an abusive and flawed prosecution from the start.
• He highlighted that financial institutions involved in the case, including Deutsche Bank, reported no harm from Trump's actions, arguing this proves the prosecution's motivations are political rather than factual.
• James initially sued Trump in 2022 for allegedly inflating property values to secure loans. A 2024 ruling barred him from serving in leadership positions in New York companies for three years and imposed the hefty penalty.
Epstein remains confident that James will not succeed in her appeal, emphasizing that the underlying case should be dismissed entirely.
