House Dems Reject Resolution Honoring Charlie Kirk

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed bipartisan Resolution 719 to honor Charlie Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, who was killed on September 10 while speaking at Utah Valley University. The alleged shooter, identified as a 22-year-old with leftist views, reportedly justified the murder as self-defense against those considered “fascists. ”

• The resolution passed with a vote of 310-58, acknowledging Kirk as a “courageous American patriot” and condemning political violence.

• All Republican members voted in favor, while every opposing vote came from Democrats. Additionally, 38 Democrats voted "present," indicating disapproval without endorsing the resolution, and 22 Democrats did not vote at all.

• Critics argue that the Democrats' lack of support for honoring Kirk reflects a desire to demonize political opponents rather than exhibit compassion for victims of violence.

• Representative Nancy Mace criticized the 58 Democrats who voted against the resolution and named them publicly, indicating a significant divide within political allegiance.

• Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, while voting against the resolution, sent an email expressing disapproval of the assassination but also criticized Kirk's beliefs, highlighting the broader conflict within political ideologies.

• The reaction to Kirk's assassination is seen as a catalyst for increased political tension, with supporters emphasizing the growth of his influence posthumously.

The passing of Resolution 719 brings attention to the heightened political violence in the U. S., inciting significant reactions from both sides of the political spectrum. Despite the turmoil, supporters of Kirk believe his legacy will continue to inspire a movement toward conservative ideals.
