Following recent federal job cuts, New York Governor Kathy Hochul has initiated a program aimed at recruiting displaced federal workers.
• New York State is currently experiencing a significant financial deficit of nearly $14 billion and has a shortage of government employees.
• To address this, the "You’re Hired" initiative has been launched targeting federal employees who lost their jobs due to the federal government's cost-cutting measures.
• Hochul emphasized the state's support for federal workers, stating, "The federal government might say, ‘You’re fired,’ but here in New York, we say, ‘You’re hired. ’”
• Government employment in New York represents 16. 4% of the workforce, but the total number of public sector workers has decreased by 4. 5% since 2010, currently standing at 1,443,500.
• This number exceeds the combined populations of Vermont and Wyoming.
With efforts to attract former federal workers, New York aims to fill government job vacancies amidst rising budget challenges and a decreasing workforce.
