 The CDC’s flawed vaccine safety signal monitoring formula

• The formula the CDC uses for generating safety signals is fundamentally flawed
• A “bad” vaccine with lots of adverse events will “mask” large numbers of important safety signals
• They refused to correct their algorithm when notified of the error
• CDC management still isn’t aware of any of these problems and is not doing anything about them

Introduction

• Very early in his career as a misinformation superspreader, Tom Friedenbach authored a 285-page article "Should you get vaccinated?" for Trial Site News.
• The formula they used to trigger safety signals was flawed, and when he brought this to the attention of the CDC and the outside committee, they ignored him and refused to consider his emails.
• He pointed the error out to Mathew Crawford, and Mathew memorialized it in a Substack article dated July 26, 2021 aptly titled Defining Away Vaccine Safety Signals.

The flaws in the CDC safety signal detection algorithm

• PRR is defined as a PRR of at least 2
• If any one of these conditions is not satisfied, no safety signal will be generated
• The PRR value for COVID vaccines will rarely exceed 1 because there are so many adverse events from the vaccine and it is dangerous

Chronology of events

• The CDC publishes a paper on COVID-19 that is seriously flawed
• It will rarely fire if the vaccine under test is very dangerous because it relies on using PRR in an "and" clause
• On July 25, 2021, Mathew Crawford notified the CDC of the error in the formula
• CDC chose to ignore all of the input that was given about the safety signals
• How is it possible that they missed the single most important safety signal for a vaccine?

An example using a fictitious dangerous vaccine

• Suppose we have the world's most dangerous vaccine that causes adverse events in everyone who gets it and generates 25,000 different adverse events, and each adverse event has 1,000 instances.
• The numerator is (1,000/25,000,000) = 40 events per million reported events
• For all other vaccines, there are 6,200 deaths and 1M adverse events total
• 40/6,200 is less than 6 deaths per million
• A dangerous vaccine can look very safe using the PRR formula

PRR calculation for death for the COVID vaccine

• For all other vaccines, there are 6,157 deaths and 918,717 adverse events total: PRR = (31214/1.4e6) / (6157/918717) = 3.32 which exceeds the required threshold of 2.32.

Chi-square test results were 18,549 for "death" which greatly exceeds the required threshold of 4

• The estimated chi-square statistic of eighteen,549 exceeded the threshold of four using the symptom of death as the sole explanation for the high number of reported deaths.

Death should have triggered a safety signal. Why didn't it?

• Because the death signal is so huge, it even survived the PRR test.
• This means that even using the CDC’s own erroneous “safety signal” formula, all three criteria were satisfied: PRR>2, It was 3.32, it was 18,5493 or more reports
• A safety signal should have been generated but wasn’t. Why not?

There is no Simpson’s paradox around a PRR safety signal

• If a safety signal is triggered for the aggregate population, it must be triggered by at least one subpopulation
• The fact that the overall aggregate PRR number is bad is sufficient to trigger the safety signal since it guarantees one of the age cohorts would trigger the signal

Plain common sense says something is wrong

• For the COVID vaccines, over 31,214 death reports have been received to date.
• Why are there 100X times more death reports being filed?
• The CDC likes to claim it is because people are more aware of VAERS, but this does not translate to reporting of deaths for any other vaccines
• Only the deaths from COVID are elevated

The Epoch Times just published an article today about newly disclosed emails about the CDC safety monitoring debacle

• The two people who appear to be most responsible for this failure are John Su and Tom Shimabukuro
• None of them will respond to any emails sent them
• Martha Sharan, the press gatekeeper at the CDC, makes sure nobody gets to John and Tom

• It’s too damaging for the narrative

What you can do about it

• Make a donation to re-elect Senator Ron Johnson. This is the single best way to hold these people accountable.
• Ask your member of Congress to explain why they aren't calling for an investigation into the safety monitoring at the CDC. Why not the media, the medical community, members of Congress, honest employees of the CDC, etc.?

The Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR) is a measure used to assess safety signals in spontaneous reporting databases

• Using PRR alone is a very unreliable way to identify safety signals for a vaccine, especially vaccines which are extremely dangerous.
• By making PRR a required element to detect a safety signal (the "and" clause described in the text above), the very dangerous COVID vaccines appear to be safe.
