This is a really good bit of information for hearth health. This is really good advice regarding anyone who takes medications to lower cholesterol levels. (Sorry, bad analogy.) Should all people have the same shoe size?—and if they don’t, it means their foot needs surgery?! This is stupid thinking. If your doctor insists that we should all have cholesterol levels below 200 mg/dL, then ask them:
      Question #2. What are some studies I could read to learn more about high cholesterol being dangerous? Your doctor may go into a well-crafted sales pitch about how high cholesterol is responsible for plaque build-up among the arteries of the heart. But that’s ridiculous because cholesterol is found every- where in the body. This means so-called “high” levels would be blocking off all regions, not just those of your heart.
Cadaver studies show that 90% of the time, blockage only occurs within the coronary arteries, not among other parts like legs, arms, fingers, or anywhere else. So by definition, cholesterol can’t be the cause of blockage—because cholesterol is everywhere in the body. It does not cause plaque everywhere when it rises. Statin drugs are associated with dementia.  Quote: "THE STATIN THAT MORE THAN DOUBLES DEMENTIA RISK. Statins, medications to lower cholesterol, are the most commonly used drugs in the entire developed world. And almost half of all Americans over the age of 75 are already taking them. The problem is that while it may seem like a no-brainer to take a medication your doctor says will reduce your risk of heart attack or stroke, it could actually be your brain you’re risking. In fact, according to a new study, one type of statins and dementia go hand-in-hand. The research, from a team at the University of California, Los Angeles, took a look at what different types of statins may be doing to your brain. You see, there’s not just one type but two prescribed based on your health needs. Hydrophilic statins focus on your liver. But lipophilic statins are distributed to tissues throughout your body. And over the years, there’s been conflicting studies on just exactly how these drugs affect your cognition. Some of them found that taking the drugs could actually guard against dementia. Still, others showed that using statins accelerated the development of the disease. So the California team decided to settle the debate for good. The researchers separated study participants into groups based on three parameters:
  • Baseline cognitive status
  • Baseline cholesterol levels
  • Type of statin used

Then each participant underwent PET imaging of their brains to identify any regions of declining cerebral metabolism within each statin group. And the researchers delved through a full eight years of clinical data on the subjects.

And the results showed that there’s one type of statin you really don’t want to be on…

The lipophilic variety.
