Biden aides dispatched to Haiti for listening tour as 60,000 migrants head toward border

Two senior U.S. diplomats met face to face with leaders in Haiti this week as the Biden administration looks to stabilize its approach to the island nation and calm pressures from home.

A 'TITANIC' EFFORT: BIDEN PUSH TO ENACT AGENDA HEADED FOR ICEBERG. "The direction from the White House has been for us to be ambitious," Gonzalez said, stating they intended to consult with diaspora leaders in charting that path.

Democrats have criticized the Biden administration's Haiti policy, urging the White House to find a way to support democratic elections in the country after late President Jovenel Moise's assassination in July.

The Biden administration has said migrants will continue to be expelled under the Title 42 public health rule, with expulsion flights to Haiti returning more than 2,000 people.

Last week, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said federal authorities would evaluate 5,000 more cases for possible expulsion, noting the Biden administration looked at the conditions in Haiti and assessed the country could receive deportees despite the humanitarian crises.

During a meeting with Prime Minister Ariel Henry and Foreign Minister Claude Joseph Nichols in Port-au-Prince, Nichols said the U.S. would continue its repatriation of migrants while calling for Haitian-led solutions to the political crises and justice in Moise's assassination.

Leaders in the region have urged Biden to take a more active role.
