WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to the House Passing H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:
“House Democrats once again vote to federalize our elections. H.R. 4 is a blatant power-grab that runs roughshod over our constitutional system of government.
“If made law, H.R. 4 would make unelected partisan bureaucrats in Joe Biden’s Department of Justice the arbiters of election law and place duly elected state legislatures under the thumb of the federal government by resurrecting antiquated pre-clearance requirements.
“As the Senate now considers this radical legislation, it is imperative that Senators Manchin, Sinema, and Kelly oppose any efforts that threaten the existence of the filibuster.
“Common-sense election-integrity reforms are overwhelmingly popular; it is past time for the federal government to get out of the way and allow states to follow the examples set by Georgia, Florida, and Arizona in securing our elections.”
