About Education 1

Finally some good news on the education front.  The people are rising up against the Common Core disaster.   http://www.libertyheadlines.com/rebellion-common-core-cursive-makes-comeback/?
Attorney General Sessions is absolutely right.  Quote: "The Justice Department is ramping up its support for students who sue universities claiming their free-speech rights have been violated — including conservatives "who've been silenced in many ways," Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Tuesday. In an interview on Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight," Sessions elaborated on a DOJ effort he unveiled to an invitation-only crowd earlier Tuesday at Georgetown University's law school. "Too much suppression of free and open speech on college campuses today," Sessions said. "Particularly conservatives being silenced in many ways. "Controversial speakers are being blocked. You have the veto by the heckler, who threatens to protest and disrupt the speech so the college may withdraw the speaker's invitation so they won't be a disturbance. These kinds of things really threaten the entire educational system in my view, the integrity of it." "We have a heritage of free speech," he continued. "It's in our Constitution, it's deeply embedded in our whole approach to life and we need to push back so we are going to push back." Sessions said the focus will be on "public institutions." http://www.newsmax.com/Politics/jeff-sessions-suppression-free-speech-campuses/2017/09/26/id/815952/?
More from AG Jeff Sessions.  The proof of what he says is the sick display of pampered leftist academics and students.  Their childish and irresponsible nonsense has got to stop.  Quote: "Attorney General Jeff Sessions had some strong words for college students all around the country during his address to Georgetown University Law Center. “Freedom of thought and speech on the American campus are under attack,” he said. “The American university was once the center of academic freedom — a place of robust debate, a forum for the competition of ideas. But it is transforming into an echo chamber of political correctness and homogenous thought, a shelter for fragile egos.” Dozens of protestors dropped down on one knee prior to Sessions starting his speech. Demonstrators included students and faculty members at Georgetown Law, more than 50 of whom signed an open letter opposing the AG’s policies. Ironically, their display demonstrated exactly what the nation’s top cop was referring to."    http://www.conservativezone.com/articles/ag-jeff-sessions-tells-college-students-to-grow-up/
Higher education has reached a new low. Quote: " Parents who continue to send their children to college and alumni who continue to contribute to colleges should have their heads examined.  We've gone way beyond "this is embarrassing."     http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2017/10/the_fall_of_higher_education.html
This short piece by Walter Williams is a real education. He addresses 5 illogical and stupid ideas taught by so called academics at our nation's colleges and universities.  These people are part of the problem.  What so many are doing is using their captive audience platform to dumb down students they are suppose to teach to think for themselves and expand their understanding across a broad spectrum of ideas.   http://www.wnd.com/2017/10/5-stupid-ideas-still-taught-on-campus/  Instead of doing their historical mission they are propagandizing their illogical socialistic, progressive and destructive leftist nonsense.
The federal government should get out of the education business.  As with everything else it gets involved in it screws things up.  Quote: "The fact that we celebrate the Every Student Succeeds Act for shifting education policy back to the states is an alarming indicator of federal dysfunction. Instead of rejoicing about a reduced extent of unauthorized federal meddling in state affairs, we should work to remove the heavy hand of centralized government entirely from every sphere in which it has no legitimate authority.  A quick visit to the U.S. Department of Education’s website reveals just how thoroughly the feds have burst the seams of their constitutional pants. There we find the agency reminding states about deadlines for submitting “State plans” for education – creating the distinct impression that it possesses some broad power to oversee education policy nationwide."    https://www.conventionofstates.com/how_bout_zero_federal_control_of_schools?
This item describes just how far to the left the politics of our college and university administrations and faculties have gone.  Two desenting professors wrote an article lamenting the cultural decline that is destroying the country.  Hoards of radical leftist professors were outraged at the exposed truth and called out the two truth tellers. Those very leftist professors are a huge part of the problem and are too arrogant and self righteous to see much less understand that truth.  Quote: "But while Professors Wax and Alexander triggered faculty and student hysteria, most Americans today, and certainly past generations, would consider their points uncontroversial to the point of truism.  A recent Gallup survey, for instance, found that a 62% to 38% majority of Americans believe in "the opportunity for a person in this nation to get ahead by working hard."  And that's after nearly eight years of the most sluggish economic cyclical recovery in U.S. history under Barack Obama.  Basic demographic and sociological data undergird Professors Wax and Alexander as well.  According to U.S. Census, the likelihood of living in poverty in America approaches zero if a person does three simple things:  (1) stay out of prison, (2) graduate high school and (3) avoid having children outside of marriage. That's obviously not to condemn or morally judge those who falter on any of those categories.  All humans are fallible, and America is the land of second, third, fourth and innumerable chances.  Moreover, a small number of people are unable to satisfy those requisites.  Professors Wax and Alexander themselves stress that exceptions exist, and they avoid moral condemnation of individuals.  That said, the real-world statistics are what they are, and they establish the validity of the professors' commentary. It's also false, by the way, for offended faculty and students to claim that unwed motherhood is a longstanding byproduct of racism.  As Dr. Thomas Sowell (himself African-American) has emphasized, U.S. Census data "going back a hundred years, when blacks were just one generation out of slavery ... showed that a slightly higher percentage of black adults had married than white adults.  This fact remained true in every census from 1890 to 1940."  Meanwhile, colleges often fail in their fundamental duty of educating students to become informed, productive citizens."   http://cfif.org/v/index.php/commentary/48-education/3756-college-faculties-advocating-self-discipline-is-now-discriminatory   Progressivism/political leftists have over a long period of time systematically destroyed the cultural and moral values that built our nation.  Academia has played a huge role in the commission of that crime.
