ICE Arrests 114 Illegal Migrants in ‘Operation Safe Drive’ on South Carolina Highways

 Recently, the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) carried out a significant operation in South Carolina to arrest illegal migrants and seize drugs.

• Operation Details: Over three days (May 12-14), ICE arrested 114 illegal migrants on highways I-26 and I-85 during "Operation Safe Drive. "

• Charges: The arrests included both criminal and administrative violations; however, specific charges and names of the suspects were not disclosed.

• Drug Seizures: The operation resulted in the seizure of 10 kilograms of cocaine valued at $200,000, found with a passenger on a commercial bus.

• Traffic Stops: A total of 145 traffic stops and 77 vehicle inspections were conducted, leading to 22 drivers and vehicles being removed from service.

• Collaboration: The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and 44 other agencies participated under the federal 287(g) program, emphasizing the cooperation between state and federal law enforcement agencies.

• Previous Operations: ICE has been active in similar highway operations across the U. S., with past arrests including 91 in Oklahoma and 101 dangerous illegal alien truckers in California.

This operation highlights ongoing efforts by ICE and local law enforcement to enforce immigration laws and combat drug trafficking on highways in South Carolina.
