Audit USAID…Then Shut it Down!

As of February 3, 2025, the USAID website is reported to be inaccessible, following actions by the new Trump Administration to freeze its activities. There are speculations that USAID may be brought under the State Department’s control or shut down entirely. This possible closure could represent a major shift in U. S. policy, as many people still believe USAID's role is to provide international relief, but it actually plays a significant role in promoting regime change abroad.

USAID spends billions supporting foreign NGOs that act like shadow governments, undermining elected authorities that the U. S. wants to replace. Its involvement has been prevalent in many foreign policy issues, particularly noted in places like Ukraine and Georgia, where it interferes in local governance, which would be unacceptable if reversed.

During a recent 90-day pause in USAID activities, it became evident how critical its funding is to many foreign media outlets. In Ukraine, a reported 90 percent of the media is funded by the U. S. government, leading to a lack of independent journalism and creating a biased information stream that affects U. S. perceptions of the conflict.

USAID has also been linked to controversial funding actions, such as a $53 million allocation to EcoHealth Alliance for coronavirus research, raising questions about its role in the COVID-19 pandemic. There is a call for a transparent audit of USAID to inform Americans about its overseas operations. Following the audit, the suggestion is to eliminate USAID, arguing that private organizations can better address international aid without government interference.
