Biden Proposal Would Mean Fewest Offshore Oil Drilling Leases In US History

The Biden administration laid out its offshore oil and gas leasing program for the next five years on Friday morning, with only three Gulf of Mexico lease sales through 2029 - resulting in the fewest offshore oil drilling leases in U.S. history.

Under the terms of a 2022 climate law, the government must offer at least 60 million acres of offshore oil and gas leases in any one-year period before it can offer offshore wind leases.

The three oil lease sales are the minimum number that can be legally offered if the Biden administration wants to continue expanding offshore wind development, according to the Associated Press.

"The release of the U.S. offshore leasing program, mandated by law and long overdue, is an utter failure for the country," Erik Milito, the president of the National Ocean Industries Association, a trade association specializing in offshore energy, said in a press release.

"The White House simply ignores our energy realities in once again limiting U.S. energy production opportunities." The proposed plan was also criticized by West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin.

The two plans under the Obama administration included more than 10 offshore oil and gas sales each lease, Fox reports.

"The Biden Administration announced its bare-bones offshore five-year leasing program designed to meet the letter of the Inflation Reduction Act law," President of the U.S. Oil and Gas Association Tim Stewart told Just the News.

The X account of former Arizona GOP gubernatorial nominee Kari Lake's campaign posted on Thursday about the state Democratic leadership's absence during Biden's arrival.

Biden was in Arizona to announce the creation of the John S. McCain III National Library at Arizona State University's Tempe campus and attend a fundraising event.

"But as it stands today, Arizona is being overwhelmed. I'm calling on Congress and the Biden administration to come together immediately to deliver much needed border security to the State of Arizona. Federal officials need to put politics aside and pass real solutions that will give our state the resources it needs to manage the increase in migrants at the border."

Biden was criticized by some county and city officials in Arizona over his decision to not visit the southern border.

Biden’s GDP Growth Numbers Signal More Pain On The Way

A new estimate for U.S. economic growth released Thursday could mean that higher interest rates, and resulting economic pain, will be with Americans for longer.

Gross Domestic Product, a measure of economic growth, for the U.S. remained at 2.1% for the second quarter of 2023 in its third revision, after being revised down from an original estimate of 2.4%, while GDP for the first quarter was revised up from 2.0% to 2.2%, according to the Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Jerome Powell, chair of the Federal Reserve, noted at the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium in August that factors like high inflation, a hot labor market and sustained economic growth could mean higher rates for longer.

The last rate hike in July was the 11th increase to the federal funds rate since March 2022, leaving the range at the highest level since 2001.

Following the FOMC meeting, Powell noted that an economic "Soft landing," a slowdown of market growth while avoiding triggering a recession, was not a "Baseline expectation," meaning the interest rates that were meant to slow down the economy to fight inflation could trigger a recession.

Inflation continues to remain high, further incentivizing the Fed to keep rates elevated, rising to 3.7% for August, far above the Fed's 2% target.

The focal point of Bidenomics is high-spending programs like the Inflation Reduction Act, which some experts argue have contributed to inflation, ultimately leading to rate increases.

Is Censorship a Partisan Issue?

Painting with a broad brush, Democrats grant significantly more deference to government than do Republicans when it comes to regulating free speech.

The most glaring gap is between conservatives and liberals, i.e., between Republicans and Democrats.

On the issue of free expression, at least, Republicans are not the authoritarian party.

Republicans were most likely to say Americans have too little freedom, while only 22% of Democrats feel that way.

Fully three-fourths of Democrats believe government has a responsibility to limit "hateful" social media posts, while Republicans are more split, with 50% believing the government has a responsibility to restrict hateful posts.

Democrats are significantly more likely than Republicans to favor stifling the free speech rights of political extremists.

Republicans don't vary by the group: Only about half of GOP voters favor censorship - whether asked about the Ku Klux Klan, Nazis, or the Communist Party.

If Republicans' aversion to censorship was transactional, they would have identified Democratic-friendly misinformation for removal.

"Regardless of the partisan slant of the content, Democrats are more likely to support the removal of content, while Republicans are more likely to oppose removing content," the study noted.

Asked a series of questions about what kind of speakers should be barred from college campuses, Democrats more often based their decision on the political slant of the speaker while Republicans were chary of the whole censorship enterprise.

"Even on issues in which one might expect Republicans to be more offended, they were less likely than Democrats to support cancelling the speaker," the Cato study found.

Federal IRS Contractor Arrested For Stealing And Leaking President Trump Tax Returns, Also Stole Thousands Of Tax Returns From U.S. Wealthiest People

An Internal Revenue Service consultant was charged today with disclosing tax return information without authorization.

According to court documents, Charles Littlejohn, 38, of Washington, D.C., while working at the IRS as a government contractor, stole tax return information associated with a high-ranking government official and disclosed it to a news organization.

Littlejohn also stole tax return information for thousands of the nation's wealthiest individuals, and disclosed this tax return information to another news organization.

Littlejohn is charged with one count of unauthorized disclosure of tax returns and return information.

If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Trial Attorneys Lauren Castaldi and Jonathan E. Jacobson of the Criminal Division's Public Integrity Section are prosecuting the case, with substantial assistance from Assistant U.S. Attorney Eleanor Hurney for the Northern District of West Virginia.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

4 Key Things You Need to Know About Government Shutdowns

1) Many Functions Continue Despite Shutdown

Even if there is a funding lapse, federal activities (and employees) deemed “essential” will continue to draw from the national treasury. Examples include national security, border patrol, law enforcement, disaster response, and more. In addition, funding for many benefits (such as Social Security) along with some agencies (such as the Postal Service) are independent of the annual spending process. A lapse of under two weeks would have even less effect since federal employees would get their paychecks on time. However, longer shutdowns are typically coupled with providing back pay to bureaucrats and congressional staffers. Accordingly, the real-world effect of a shutdown would be much less than the apocalyptic rhetoric that often characterizes press coverage of the issue.

2) Shutdowns Reflect Failure to Budget

The federal government’s fiscal year begins on Oct. 1 and ends on Sept. 30.If Congress fails to pass the annual set of spending bills (referred to as appropriations) by the end of September, the government’s ability to spend becomes limited due to important legal safeguards against executive agencies spending without legislative approval. This provides information and recommendations on the full spectrum of federal activity. By mid-April, Congress produces a budget resolution to establish spending guidelines. Over the late spring and summer, appropriations committees draft 12 pieces of legislation to provide spending allowances for federal agencies, with varying degrees of specificity. Congress hasn’t completed the process on time since 1997. With Republicans and Democrats divided over the proper size and scope of the federal government, negotiations over both overall spending levels and item-by-item authorizations usually drag out well past the Sept. 30 deadline.

3) Presidents Can Make Shutdowns Worse

A classic example of the swamp in action is what’s referred to as “Washington Monument Syndrome,” where a government will make a spending cut or funding lapse as painful as possible by closing down low-cost, highly symbolic things. The Obama administration implemented this strategy in 2013 by blocking access to open-air public facilities, such as the World War II Memorial, even though keeping such areas closed and guarded was more expensive than normal operations. While there’s no indication as to how President Joe Biden plans to handle a potential government shutdown, the administration’s radical approach to issue after issue doesn’t bode well.

Many things the federal government manages are important and necessary. Shrinking the endless list of federal responsibilities would make the country less vulnerable to congressional dysfunction. Assessing The BRICS Expansion: Debunking Expectations

Lack of Shared Interests

India, the world’s most populous country as of July 2023, is in a border dispute with China, which resulted in minor military clashes in 2020 and 2022. China’s naval activities in the Indian Ocean led India to strengthen defense ties with the United States, Australia, and Japan through the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD). Just days after the BRICS summit, in a move that jeopardizes meaningful cooperation for global peace and economic development, China’s Ministry of Natural Resources released a new version of its national map that lays claim to Indian and Russian territory. India promptly lodged a diplomatic complaint.

Dedollarization

There have been discussions of creating a BRICS currency, which proponents believe could unseat the US dollar. Replacing the dollar in trade, however, would be problematic: because it is liquid and freely convertible, the dollar is widely used in trade, many oil-producing nations peg their currencies to it, and it is the preferred currency for foreign reserves. In general, not even BRICS nations want to hold BRICS currencies as reserves. The only BRICS currency used in global reserves is the Chinese yuan, making up a record low of about 2.5 percent. Replacing the dollar with a BRICS currency was not even on the agenda of the most recent BRICS summit.

Lack of Institutions

The only BRICS institution in existence is the New Development Bank (NDB), which until recently was an exclusively US-dollar bank. Backed and largely funded by China, it provides loans similar to those provided by China through the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2016, the NDB started structuring some loans in the currencies of other BRICS countries; but given the low convertibility and high instability of member currencies, its working currency remains the US dollar. At the most recent BRICS summit, stabilizing member currencies was a higher priority on the agenda than dedollarization.

Eschewing the US-Led Global Economy

The size and health of BRICS economies varies dramatically. Argentina’s inflation, meanwhile, has risen above 100 percent. Ethiopia, despite rapid GDP growth, remains one of the poorest countries in Africa, with a GDP per capita of just over $1,000 per year. Arguably, the BRICS nations with the most global power and influence in politics and diplomacy are China and Russia. But since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Russia’s economy has been deteriorating and now faces dwindling foreign currency reserves and economic sanctions. The USI stated that China was trying to build its own influence through BRICS as it has done through other groups, such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Belt and Road Initiative.

Controlling Minerals and Oil

With its inclusion, Saudi Arabia, the largest exporter of crude oil, will join China, the largest importer of oil, in an economic coalition that will account for 42 percent of global oil production. Expansion of membership also places several OPEC+ members in the grouping. There are suggestions that BRICS will somehow benefit from the sale of oil, but the OPEC+ members of BRICS have not announced that they will leave OPEC, which still controls the quantity and price of oil. Furthermore, the group’s official opposition to artificial trade restrictions would make it impossible to control commodity prices. The Johannesburg II Declaration, issued by BRICS, states clearly that they “oppose trade barriers” and blames global economic decline on ”trade fragmentation.”

In the end, many of the group’s goals, such as dedollarization or regulating the price and quantity of oil and minerals, seem unlikely or impossible. Meanwhile, the goal of escaping US hegemony, if achieved, could just lead to Chinese hegemony. However, the biggest contradiction of the BRICS agenda is revealed in Xi Jinping’s closing speech when he advises the BRICS nations to avoid hegemony, bloc-building, and sleepwalking into a ”new Cold War”—given that his vision for BRICS is to build and dominate a large bloc to counter the US and the G7.

California: Class Action Filed Against Gilead Sciences For Death And Injury By Remdesivir

A ground-breaking class action lawsuit was filed on Wednesday in a California superior court against Gilead Sciences for people injured or killed by remdesivir.

Lawsuits filed against Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Centre and Redlands Community Hospital, as well as several of their physicians, state that doctors committed fraud by prescribing remdesivir to their victims without their knowledge or consent.

None of them accused remdesivir's manufacturer, Gilead Sciences.

Biden Bypasses Senate Confirmation in Labor’s Julie Su

Without a confirmation vote by the U.S. Senate, acting Labor Secretary Julie Su can remain in her post atop the Labor Department, according to a Sept. 21 ruling by the Government Accountability Office.

Su served as California labor commissioner and supported Assembly Bill 5, a frontal assault on workers' independence.

Su headed California's Labor and Workforce Development Agency, which oversees the Employment Development Department responsible for unemployment claims.

On Su's watch, the EDD sent more than $31 billion in fraudulent unemployment claims to California, out of state, and out of country.

In 2020 alone, Su confirmed, as reported by the California Globe, "Fraudsters stole at least $11.4 billion in unemployment benefits from California." As it happens, fraud was not a new problem at the EDD. California's state auditor reported that the "EDD had no comprehensive plan for how it would respond if California experienced a recession and UI claims increased accordingly." Su had failed "To modernize the EDD's woefully outdated EDD technology," the Washington Examiner reports, and, in the early days of the pandemic, suspended eligibility requirements for EDD claims.

According to USA Today, "The state approved more than $140 million for at least 20,000 prisoners." Convicts who made fraudulent claims included convicted murderers Scott Peterson and Cary Stayner.

Scammers filed hundreds of fake claims, "Including one in the name of California Sen. Dianne Feinstein," according to KRON4.

RFK Jr. to announce independent White House bid in early October

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will reportedly jettison the Democrats and soon announce plans to seek the White House in 2024 as an in independent candidate.

He is expected to make the announcement on Oct. 9 at a Pennsylvania rally, Mediaite reported. An adviser to the presidential candidate said his decision stemmed from what he considered unfair practices by the Democratic National Committee to stifle his candidacy.

"Bobby feels that the DNC is changing the rules to exclude his candidacy so an independent run is the only way to go," one campaign advisor told the outlet.

At present, Kennedy averages 14.9% support in the Democratic primary to Biden's 65.0%, according to RealClearPolitics. Hollywood guru Marianne Williamson places third with 4.9%.

Kennedy has long expressed frustrations with both the DNC and the Biden White House. In July of this year, he fumed at the administration's decision to reject his request for Secret Service protection.

DHS Greatly Inflates Number Of Transnational Criminal Organizations It Dismantles

To address the crisis President Trump issued an executive order in 2017 to dismantle TCOs and prevent international trafficking by, not only strengthening the enforcement of federal law, but also ensuring that Homeland Security agencies devote sufficient resources to identifying, interdicting and disrupting TCOs.

All these years later the Department of Homeland Security has no clue how many TCOs it has dismantled and, even worse, the agency created after 9/11 to safeguard the country inflates the figures markedly.

During a recent five-year period Homeland Security Investigations, DHS's principal investigative arm responsible for disrupting terrorist and transnational threats, failed to accurately measure and publicly report its progress dismantling TCOs, according to a report issued this month by the DHS Inspector General.

The watchdog reviewed a sample of 422 Significant Case Reports and determined that 253 did not describe an entity that aligned with HSI's definition of a TCO. "From FY 2017 through FY 2022, HSI did not accurately publicly report its progress against its established performance measure of disrupting or dismantling TCOs," investigators write in the report.

HSI created the SCR process over a decade ago to identify its most important cases and measure its success in disrupting criminal organizations such as TCOs as well as to justify more congressional funding.

The DHS IG found that the embellished stats occurred because the agency relied on data in the case reports which conveniently failed to distinguish between TCO-related and non-TCO-related probes.

The DHS watchdog reveals that "To be considered significant, the investigation must involve a high-threat TCO engaged in criminal activity related to child exploitation; travel or finance; illicit trade; counterterrorism; worksite enforcement; gangs; or national security."

Outgoing Joint Chiefs of Staff chairman General Mark Milley lost his temper during his resignation speech, appearing to take a dig Donald Trump, his former Commander-in-Chief, as a “wannabe dictator”. Milley – whose crowning achievements in his role were the introduction of wokeness to the U.S. military as well as his back channel support for Communist China – whined: “we don’t take an oath to a wannabe dictator” during his outgoing message.

Milley was a controversial Joint Chiefs chairman, constantly miring himself in political disputes by endorsing far-left concepts such as Critical Race Theory (CRT), once telling Congress “I want to understand White Rage, and I’m white” and boasting of having read Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, and Mao Zedong. Milley and Trump frequently clashed over what Trump saw as the general’s military incompetence, particularly his advice that leaving U.S. equipment in Afghanistan behind for the Taliban would be the most cost-effective response to takeover – which ended up happening under Joe Biden. “That’s when I realized he was a f***ing idiot,” Trump said of the exchange.

Important breaking new this week!

A suit was filed by the DOJ that has massive implications for election integrity. The DOJ has brought charges against a Filipino election administrator and four Smartmatic executives are also named as uncharged co-conspirators.  Now, superficially it’s about money laundering and bribes but the money laundering was allegedly payment for the tampering of elections in the Philippines. It will be interesting when additional information about this is divulged.

It is important to note that the same operating system utilized by Smartmatic is used in all electronic voting systems (ES&S, Dominion, and Hart Intercivic). The narrative of “safe and secure” elections is beginning to crumble.

A COVID Tyrant For President?

When recently asked if he was going to run for president next year, California Gov. Gavin Newsom wouldn't rule it out.

In addition to driving people from his state with policies that become more deranged with every passing year, Newsom was a malevolent pandemic warrior who should have been punished for his offenses.

Given the opportunity thanks to the novel coronavirus outbreak, Newsom smoothly tapped into his just-below-the-surface authoritarianism.

"When confronted a few weeks ago about the harshness of his COVID restrictions while on"Meet the Press," Newsom said that had he known then what he knows now, "I think we would've done everything differently.

Fox's Greg Gutfeld has called Newsom "the slickest, sneakiest man on Earth, and the governor's "Admission" only bolsters Gutfeld's point.

Rather than be rewarded with the presidency, Newsom, like all the other COVID-itarians in the country, should be held to account for the damage he unleashed.

Musk recorded a livestream on X at the Eagle Pass border crossing on Thursday evening to show "What's really going on." We previewed days ago that Musk was planning to visit the border. 

Besides some right-leaning media outlets, there has been a blackout of news coverage by the corporate press about the latest border crisis flare-up. Musk's mission on the border yesterday was to show how X can be a powerful tool to share real-time coverage about what's really happening on the ground that entirely bypasses legacy and dying corporate media outlets. 

Musk's reporting of the border crisis on X doesn't stop with his livestream. He quoted another post showing illegals crossing the border while saying: "The border crisis is worse every day! New York City is buckling under the load already." 

And he commented, "!!" on another post that shows some stunning data about the number of illegals the Biden administration has allowed to pour into the country.
