Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Commissioner Brendan Carr recently called on Apple and Google to remove TikTok from their respective app stores, citing national security and data privacy concerns.
TikTok's parent company ByteDance is "beholden to the Chinese government" and is "required by law to comply with [Chinese government] surveillance demands."
This renews a Trump-era initiative to ban the app from American phones.
