United States Attorney Sherri A. Lydon announced today that nine individuals,
including seven law enforcement officers,
have been indicted in federal court in South Carolina on visa fraud and drug charges.
One of the schemes alleged in the Indictment involved fraudulent U Nonimmigrant Visas,
which are set aside for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse as a result of the crime.
To obtain a U-Visa,
a law enforcement official must certify that the alien is assisting that law enforcement agency in the investigation or prosecution of the crime of which the alien was a victim.
According to the Indictment,
four officers helped individuals obtain fraudulent U-Visas by taking bribes for fraudulent certifications and creating fraudulent incident reports indicating that aliens were victims of crimes.
The Indictment further alleges that officers took bribes in exchange for protecting methamphetamine and cocaine or the proceeds of drug trafficking.

we honor the hard work and dedication of the very fine officers across South Carolina who put on the police uniform every day and risk their lives to protect the rest of us,"
said U.S. Attorney Lydon.
The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation,
with assistance from ICE - Homeland Security Investigations and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The Obama-era FISA warrant obtained to monitor the communications of Carter Page was most likely utilized as a gateway to spy on the rest of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign,
contended William Binney,
a former highly placed NSA official turned whistleblower.
The same warrant against Page technically could also have been used to legally justify collecting data on the Republican National Committee or the leadership of the Republican Party,
Binney said.
He explained that if Page had called anyone from the Trump campaign or the RNC,
the NSA could legally have spied not only on that second individual but on others called by the second person.
Stated Binney: "
If you get a warrant on say Carter Page and for example he has a call or an email to the Republican National Committee or anybody in the Trump campaign,
that warrant then allows them to go out two degrees from the RNC to everybody associated with the RNC and from anyone from the Trump campaign to anyone they are associated with."
In late October 2016,
then-FBI director James Comey signed the first of three successful FISA applications to obtain warrants to spy on Page,
the American financial consultant who was tangentially associated with the campaign as an adviser.
All three applications reportedly cited as key evidence against Page the largely-discredited dossier produced by the controversial Fusion GPS firm which was paid for its anti-Trump work by Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign and the Democratic National Committee via the Perkins Coie law firm.
Binney argued that the warrant on Page was likely used to "
Legitimize"
and "
Justify"
spying on the entire Trump campaign.

Three previously deported illegal aliens have been charged by the Utah Attorney General's Office with running a drug ring throughout Salt Lake City in addition to other felonies,
reports KSL.com.
All three men told authorities they had been previously deported but snuck back in through the Texas border.

specifically heroin and cocaine"
and quickly moved in on the suspects.

Based on your training and understanding of drug distributors it appears likely the suspects were flushing drugs down the toilet,"
the attorney generals office said.
Records say one of the suspects confessed to receiving "
Narcotics from some Mexicans in the evening and would separate them into individual packaging for selling at night.
The next day they would go throughout the Salt Lake Valley and sell the packages of narcotics."

President Donald Trump's special envoy to Venezuela warned that the administration could impose financial sanctions against Russia if it continues to meddle in Venezuela.
Elliott Abrams said he has already delivered a list of options to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo,
including diplomatic pressure and economic sanctions,
that can be employed against Russia if it continues to send military personnel to Caracas.
The Trump administration ratcheted up its warnings Friday against Russia and other countries who may be considering sending military personnel to Venezuela by calling the action a direct threat to peace and security in the region.
The Russians caught the attention of the United States and regional allies this week after two Russian planes landed in Caracas filled with about 100 Russian soldiers.
Pompeo earlier warned that the United States wouldn't "
Stand idly by"
as Russians sent troops into Venezuela.
Trump was even more forceful when asked about the Russian activity during his meeting Wednesday with Guaido's wife.
The Red Cross announced Friday that it would start distributing humanitarian aid in Venezuela in about 15 days.

Former Republican South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy predicted Sunday that the U.S. intelligence community might stop providing information to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff because he leaks "
Like a screen door on a submarine."
Gowdy was asked to weigh in on Republicans'
decision Thursday to call on Schiff to step down as chairman of the House panel.
"
Adam is a deeply partisan person.
He did everything he could to make sure Hillary Clinton became president.
And he's done everything he could to keep a cloud over the Trump presidency,"
Gowdy said of Schiff.
Gowdy suggested House Speaker Nancy Pelosi could potentially remove Schiff as chairman of the committee.
"
The next thing that's going to happen is the different intelligence entities are going to say, '
You know what,
Chairman Schiff,
if you don't believe the information we provide to you if you have the president of the United States,
not just indicted but in jail and you continue to leak like a screen door on a submarine,
we're going to quit giving you information,'"
said Gowdy.

That's when Pelosi will replace Adam Schiff with someone like Jim Himes,
who is someone who is a smarter and a lot more reasonable."
