Denial of Keystone Pipeline Permit Will Cost Jobs, Restrict Access to Large Supply of North American Energy
This week the Obama administration denied a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline that would take oil from Canada through the U.S. to refineries on the Gulf Coast. Senator Corker said the decision will cost thousands of American jobs and deny access to a large supply of North American energy.
"Rejecting the Keystone pipeline will cost thousands of American jobs and prevent our country from accessing a large supply of North American energy. Outside of election year politics, there is no good reason to block this project, especially when we really need the energy and the jobs the pipeline would generate. I will continue to press the administration to reconsider this decision and find a way to eventually approve the project," Corker said. After meeting with realtors in Nashville and Chattanooga last week, Senator Corker was in Knoxville on Thursday to meet with members of the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors and discuss his proposal for long-term housing reform.
Senator Corker has introduced the Residential Mortgage Market Privatization and Standardization Act in an effort to start a real conversation in Washington about the need to responsibly unwind government-sponsored enterprises Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and gradually end dependence on the government for housing finance.
