State auditor: High-speed rail has hidden costs

High-speed rail has a hidden price tag — $96.8 billion for operations and maintenance from 2024 to 2060 if the 220-mph train from Anaheim to San Francisco is ever built, according to an audit released Tuesday.

And the profits, which the California High-Speed Rail Authority‘s business plan implied would go to the state’s taxpayers, actually will go private investors, according to the State Auditor.
