• From approximately 57,000 to 29,000 years ago, the Earth experienced 11 significant warming events in Greenland, with temperature increases of 10-16°C occurring over just a few centuries.
• These warming events, known as Dansgaard-Oeschger (D-O) events, were not isolated to Greenland; they were recorded globally, substantiating a theory that such changes are not unique to the present day.
• Pollen-based reconstructions showed winter temperature increases of 2-5°C and in some cases, up to 5-20°C across various regions including Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Americas, indicating that dramatic climate changes were widespread.
• This historical evidence suggests that the current rate and magnitude of modern global warming are neither unprecedented nor unusual when viewed in the context of past climate fluctuations.
