There has been a recent uproar regarding an X post by one of our legislators regarding voter registration forms that were provided to a refugee in Spartanburg.
The national voter registration also known as motor voter law allows for these forms to be made available in the state agencies.
The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 sets forth certain voter registration requirements with respect to elections for federal office.
Section 5 of the NVRA requires that States offer voter registration opportunities at State motor vehicle agencies.
Section 6 of the NVRA requires that States offer voter registration opportunities by mail-in application.
Section 7 of the NVRA requires that States offer voter registration opportunities at certain State and local offices, including public assistance and disability offices.
Section 8 of the NVRA contains requirements with respect to the administration of voter registration by States and requires States to implement procedures to maintain accurate and current voter registration lists.
What voter registration opportunity is required by Section 5 of the NVRA?
Each State motor vehicle driver's license application submitted to a State motor vehicle authority must serve as a simultaneous voter registration application unless the applicant fails to sign the voter registration application.
Any change of address form submitted for State driver's license purposes must also serve as notification of change of address for voter registration purposes unless the registrant states on the form that the change of address is not for voter registration purposes.
These laws allow multiple state agencies to provide voter registration forms.
"Voter registration agency" means an office designated to perform specific voter registration activities;.
Distribution of voter registration application forms in accordance with subsection;.

Smith's Criminal Election Interference Alleged: Complaint Against US Special Counsel
A complaint was filed against US Special Counsel Jack Smith with the Department of Justice's Office of Professional Responsibility, accusing him of illegal election interference by hastening the prosecution of President Trump to affect the 2024 election.

Last week it was reported that Washington Governor Jay Inslee has announced $45 million worth of subsidies that is going to allow "Low income" families to purchase an electric vehicle.
The initiative offers families the opportunity to receive financial assistance for either leasing or purchasing electric vehicles, with up to $9,000 allocated for leasing and $5,000 for purchasing, according to Must Read Alaska.
Approximately 9,000 people can benefit from the grant, with the potential for either 9,000 individuals to opt for the $5,000 deal or 5,000 individuals for the $9,000 option.
"Washingtonians really get it when it comes to electric vehicles," Inslee said at a press conference last week.
He expressed optimism about widespread adoption, anticipating significant participation and benefit from the program.

An Arizona grand jury has indicted a group of individuals on charges related to their adoption of the role of alternate electors in the 2020 Presidential election.
The group included Kelli Ward, then Arizona GOP chair, who disputed the legitimacy of the election results.
The Washington Post reported other indicted individuals as "Former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorneys Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, John Eastman and Christina Bobb, top campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn and former campaign aide Mike Roman."
Given the ongoing roles of Meadows, Giuliani, Eastman, Epsteyn, and Bobb in campaigning for and working with the Trump campaign and the Republican National Committee it is impossible to view the new round of indictments as anything more than further banana republic-style election interference.
Charles Burnham, an attorney for John Eastman, told The National Pulse on Wednesday evening: "The phenomenon of partisan lawfare grows more troubling by the day. Professor Eastman is innocent of criminal conduct in Arizona or any other place and will fight these charges as he has all the other unjust accusations leveled against him."

The Democratic Party's primary fundraising platform helped facilitate donations to the anti-Israel encampment at Michigan State University.
A fundraiser organized by the Progressive Caucus of Mid Michigan on ActBlue's website helped raise donations to prop up the anti-Israel encampment.
The donation page pleaded: "Support our Student Activists! Please help us feed and house our campers!" MSU protesters credited outside donations for keeping morale high at the encampment, the State News recounted.
Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who refused to condemn separate Michigan protesters who chanted "Death to Israel" and "Death to America," touted the MSU encampment in a post to Instagram.
Unlike the more chaotic and unsanctioned protest at Columbia University, the MSU Board of Trustees approved the tent encampment until April 28 after protesters first attempted to take over campus without permission on April 25.
The administration urged encampment organizers to submit a permit which was approved later that day.
"Hurriya members have collectively decided to close the encampment down. This is only a momentary pause to the encampment not an end to our movement."

Biden's student debt cancellation could cost taxpayers $1.4 trillion
President Joe Biden's plans to cancel student debt for some borrowers could cost taxpayers up to $1.4 trillion, depending on how the plans are implemented, a new report estimates.
The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimated all Biden's recent debt cancellation efforts would cost a combined $870 billion to $1.4 trillion.
"The vast majority of this debt cancellation was put in place through executive actions under President Biden." The group said about $620 billion of debt cancellation has already been implemented.
"Our numbers differ somewhat from our previous estimates, mainly because the President's plan to cancel $10,000 to $20,000 of student debt per person was ruled illegal by the Supreme Court and the cost of his newest plan remains uncertain," according to the report.
The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget noted its $870 billion to $1.4 trillion estimate was close in cost to all projected education appropriations over the next decade.
It estimated the cost of offering universal pre-K and universal affordable child care would be $750 billion.
"As we've explained before, most of these student debt cancellation policies have not only been costly, but also inflationary, poorly targeted, counter to the mission of lowering college costs, and not financially justified," according to the report.

Official Study: Covid Spike Proteins Turn Benign Cancer Cells Into 'Indestructible Tumors'
A bombshell new study from Brown University has found that the spike protein from COVID-19 turns benign cancer cells into 'indestructible tumors'.
According to the team of scientists, led by Dr. Wafik El-Deiry, the director of Brown's Legorreta Cancer Center, spike protein helps cancer cells grow and survive and resist chemotherapy.
Naturalnews.com reports: El-Deiry and his colleagues observed that when cancer cells encountered spike protein subunits, it reduced the activity of p53, a protein that helps defend the body against tumors.
The study also used chemotherapy drugs to activate the p53 genes, but instead of dying, the researchers found that cancer cells containing spike protein subunits displayed increased resistance to chemotherapy, a standard treatment for various types of cancers.

The researchers argued that even with reduced cancer screenings and limited healthcare access at that time, the mortality rate increase in these cancer types is still unexplainable due to resolved restrictions on healthcare access for cancer screenings and treatments in 2022.

Pushing Back Indirectly Against The Biden Administration's Unlawful CBP One Programs
To address a dramatic increase in migrants who have crossed the Southwest border illegally from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela specifically that began in late FY 2021, the Biden administration created parole programs that allow nationals of those four countries to apply for parole without leaving home and to receive authorization to fly to, remain in, and work in the United States, despite being inadmissible to the country under federal law.
As shorthand, we refer to these programs as "CHNV Parole".
At the same time it rolled out CHNV Parole, the Biden administration also announced that would-be illegal migrants would be able to schedule their unlawful arrivals at Southwest border ports of entry using the CBP One Mobile App and receive parole - a policy that immigration experts now often refer to as the "CBP One App interview scheme".
Unlike the CNHV program, this arrangement at the land ports of entry is not "Nationality specific", and as of February 2024, the Biden administration has allowed more than 500,000 inadmissible aliens to enter and be released into the country through the CBP One App interview scheme.
The second major problem with the CHNV Parole program is that the Biden administration is expressly using it to circumvent the immigration limits Congress has set.
CHNV parole allows inadmissible aliens to "Jump the line" ahead of aliens abroad waiting for visas, without most American voters - who largely oppose the Biden administration's immigration policies - ever realizing that fact.
The VALID Act strategy is unique in that it does not address DHS's parole authority or the Biden administration's general unwillingness to enforce federal immigration laws against most aliens in or attempting to enter the United States without a lawful immigration status.
Fed Energy Official: "A Lot Of Shuttered Nuclear Power Plants Could Be Turned Back On"
The federal government is expected to continue restarting shuttered nuclear power plants in the coming years to meet the increasing demand for clean, dependable energy essential for powering the economy of tomorrow.
"There are a couple of nuclear power plants that we probably should, and can, turn back on," Jigar Shah, director of the US Energy Department's Loan Programs Office, told Bloomberg in an interview.
Shah said, "A lot of the other players that have a nuclear power plant that has recently shut down and could be turned back on are gaining that confidence to try." He declined to give specifics about which plants were slated to reopen.
Nuclear power is the largest single source of carbon-free electricity.
The trend is only gaining steam as the revival of nuclear power plants will continue benefiting some of the largest uranium producers, such as Cameco.
Poppe told a Stanford University forum that nuclear power should continue to be part of California's power generation mix as efforts to decarbonize the grid.
"Nuclear should be part of the future," she said, noting that the state's only nuclear power plant - Diablo Canyon - could be granted a license extension through the 2030s by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Pelosi said, "Well, it is because the fact is that no matter what he says, there will be a national abortion ban, and that would be horrible for our country."
Tur asked, "If President Biden gets reelected and there's a Democratic House and a Democratic Senate, what can President Biden do to protect abortion nationwide?".
Pelosi said, "We can enshrine into the law Roe v. Wade.".
She continued, "No it doesn't. It's 60 votes is the Senate now but if we win 50-plus-1 in the Senate, 50 plus the vice president, we can overturn the 60-vote rule."

Study Finds Vitamin D Alters Mouse Gut Bacteria To Give Better Cancer Immunity
Researchers at the Francis Crick Institute, the National Cancer Institute of the U.S. National Institutes of Health and Aalborg University in Denmark, have found that vitamin D encourages the growth of a type of gut bacteria in mice which improves immunity to cancer.
A separate analysis of a cancer patient population also suggested that people with higher vitamin D levels were more likely to respond well to immune-based cancer treatments.
"Caetano Reis e Sousa, head of the Immunobiology Laboratory at the Crick, and senior author, said," What we've shown here came as a surprise-vitamin D can regulate the gut microbiome to favor a type of bacteria which gives mice better immunity to cancer.
"This could one day be important for cancer treatment in humans, but we don't know how and why vitamin D has this effect via the microbiome. More work is needed before we can conclusively say that correcting a vitamin D deficiency has benefits for cancer prevention or treatment."
We found that vitamin D helps gut bacteria to elicit cancer immunity improving the response to immunotherapy in mice.

South Carolina Governor Signs Bill To Help Preserve Working Agricultural Lands
South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster signed a measure that aims to help landowners use voluntary conservation easements to preserve working agricultural lands.
The measure ostensibly complements the agricultural projects the bank funds by establishing a matching grant payment for qualified projects.
Grant applications must meet evaluation criteria, including the land's natural resources value, the threat of non-agriculture-related development and a property's current and future commercial agricultural economic viability.
"Farmers are the backbone of our state, and as more businesses and people move here, we must find innovative ways to protect our state's most valuable farmlands," McMaster, a Republican, said in an announcement.
"This legislation provides farmers a cost-effective option to keep and pass down their families' farms while ensuring that our state's agriculture industry remains strong and our most precious natural resources aren't lost forever to overdevelopment."
According to a South Carolina Revenue and Fiscal Affairs review, "The funding for the Working Farmland Protection Fund is not specified [and] the number and amount of the grants that may be awarded is undetermined." However, the agriculture, commerce and transportation departments "Indicated the requirements of this bill can be fulfilled using existing appropriations," according to the review.
"This important new legislation helps us continue to feed people and fuel our economy while protecting our state's agricultural past, present, and future," Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers said in an announcement.
The Communists On Campus

The NLG argued that the terrorist attacks upon civilians were justified and that the terrorists involved were simply "Exercising their fundamental and protected right to self-defense and to liberate their land and people from occupation and colonialism." The Guild called for "All Palestinian and Lebanese resistance organizations" to be removed from the list of U.S.-designated terrorist groups.
The NLG has officially stated that the United States "Is based on and dedicated to preserving white supremacy, hetero-patriarchy and imperialism." It has called for the abolishment of all jails and prisons and the dissolution of all law enforcement organizations.

The Report has a date only specified to the month of "April 2024," but the press release came out just two days ago on April 25.
Are you familiar with the International Energy Agency? It is not part of the UN, but rather a separate consortium currently of some 40 countries, mostly Western and mostly rich, founded in the wake of the oil shocks of the 1970s with a then-goal of promoting energy security.
The thesis of the Report is that batteries, and particularly lithium ion batteries, are the key to the impending energy transition, and need to be scaled up massively and immediately with whatever amount of government subsidies and handouts that it takes.
Those include: Quantitatively, how much energy storage, in watt-hours will be necessary to provide full back-up to a national electricity grid once all fossil fuel back-up has been banished and the storage is all that is available when the instantaneous generators are not supplying the full demand? How much will that amount of storage cost? What is the maximum length of time that energy must be held in storage before it is called upon, and is the proposed storage technology capable of the task of storing energy for that period of time? There are other comparably important questions, but at least those are absolutely essential.
Battery storage in the power sector was the fastest growing energy technology in 2023 that was commercially available, with deployment more than doubling year-on-year.

In my own report, which only considered scenarios of getting through a single year, I showed that much of the stored energy would need to be held for 6 - 12 months before use.
For even longer duration storage, such as seasonal storage, battery technologies are not fit for purpose, and other mechanical, e.g. pumped storage hydro, and chemical, e.g. hydrogen storage, technologies need to be deployed.

ICE Immigration-Enforcement Officers Thumb Noses At HSI 'Rebrand'
Immigration officers in the agency's Enforcement and Removal Operations branch don't have that option - immigration enforcement is all ERO does - and instead are, in my estimation, thumbing their noses at their newly cleansed and liberated comrades, with the ERO head vowing not to "Be swayed by political theater or media rhetoric".
In 2018, 19 HSI special agents in charge sent an undated letter to then-DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, asking her "To restructure ICE into the two separate, independent entities of HSI and ERO".
The current acting ICE director was among the SACs who signed that letter, as "P.J. Lechleitner", but he did not - and could not - restructure the agency as he and the other SACs requested when he took acting command of the agency in June 2023, nor did he immediately initiate an HSI rebranding.
The plain implication is that HSI leadership and Lechleitner are hamming it up in said political theater and are kowtowing to those who denigrate immigration enforcement.
More limited operations involving the deportation of criminal aliens and of at least some of the million-plus aliens who've had their day in court but remain here under final orders of removal are likely at some point in the immediate future, and the only agency in the federal government that can execute such operations is ICE. That would mean that not only Bible's embattled officers but also Lechleitner's rebranded HSI agents would have to get their hands dirty doing the surveillance, arrests, detentions, and removals that the latter apparently believe to be below their station and dignity.
Trained agents are always in high demand, so if any or all of the ones in HSI don't like the "Immigration" part of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, they can easily go elsewhere, and should.
If ICE resources are so scarce, they should be expended on the agency's mission - deporting removable aliens, which a majority of Americans want - and not on "Political theater" like HSI rebranding.

Why Chinese Nationals Are Crossing Southern Border
Chinese nationals are crossing America's southern border at a rapid rate.
On Wednesday alone, the U.S. Border Patrol encountered 206 Chinese nationals crossing into the San Diego sector, Fox News correspondent Bill Melugin reported.
In January, U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported over 3,700 encounters with Chinese nationals on the southern border, nearly all in the San Diego sector.
Back up to January 2021, when Joe Biden became president, and CBP encountered only 17 Chinese nationals at the southern border.
To find out why so many Chinese nationals are crossing the U.S.-Mexico border in the San Diego sector, The Daily Signal spoke to Scott as well as to Derek Maltz, a 28-year veteran of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, and to Michael Cunningham, a research fellow in The Heritage Foundation's Asian Studies Center.
The former Border Patrol chief pointed to reports that Chinese nationals are "Systematically coming into the United States and buying property, buying foreign property, buying property near military bases," as evidence that they are crossing the border intentionally.
Although illegal immigrants could achieve some cultural and economic influence on America, Cunningham said, it's unlikely that significant numbers of Chinese nationals cross the southern border with the intent of spying on the U.S. Legal ways to enter the U.S., he said, provide greater opportunity for Chinese spies to access sensitive U.S. data than an illegal alien could get at.
Majority Of Voters Back Border Wall, Stiff Immigration Controls
When it comes to immigration, one thing is clear: Americans overwhelmingly favor building a border wall and strongly enforcing existing immigration laws, the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows.
"Since President Biden took office in 2021, immigration rules have been loosened, allowing for the entry of 5 million undocumented immigrants from around the world, according to the government's own count. How would you address the immigration issue?".
That was No. 2, chosen by 42%. No. 1, which similarly called for a crackdown on border crossings and a border wall but didn't include deportation as a possibility, garnered 16% of all responses.
That's a 58% majority favoring at minimum a wall and more border enforcement, and a plurality of 42% favoring deportations to go along with the increased border controls.
Democrats were more likely than Republicans to choose the two least-restrictive options: the "Open border" option No. 4, and the "Tighten somewhat, but no deportations" option No. 3, for a slim total Democrat majority of 51%. Republicans went big for the more-restrictive options, No. 1 and especially No. 2, for a total of 86%. A majority of independents also selected the restrictive responses No. 1 and No. 2, for a total of 53% of independents.
What does this all mean? When you dig in, you see that a solid majority of likely voters are eager to limit illegal immigration across our now-porous borders, and that a plurality want those here illegally to be deported.

In a 23-page ruling Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee slammed Willis for a 'tremendous lapse in judgment' and for acting in an 'unprofessional manner' but said she could stay on the case if Wade stepped down.
Trump's lawyers slammed the decision to let Willis stay on the case and said they would pursue 'all legal options' in response.
Justice Thomas Raises Scrutiny On Special Counsel Jack Smith's Appointment In Trump Hearing
U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas has asked former President Donald Trump's lawyers about whether they challenged special counsel Jack Smith's authority to bring charges against the president.
During the hearing, Justice Thomas asked John Sauer, the attorney who represented President Trump in court, "Did you, in this litigation, challenge the appointment of special counsel?" Mr. Smith was appointed to the case by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
The U.S. Supreme Court is hearing President Trump's immunity case as part of Mr. Smith's indictment of the former president alleging an attempt to subvert the transfer of presidential power following the 2020 election.
President Trump is charged with four criminal counts in the case.

Justice Kavanaugh Warns Of Vicious Cycle Of Malicious Prosecutions That Could End Presidency
During Thursday's deliberations at the U.S. Supreme Court on former President Donald Trump's immunity claim, Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh warned that a decision in the case has future implications for whether future presidents are shielded from vicious cycles of malicious prosecution that could effectively end the presidency as we know it.
Justice Kavanaugh said that when presidents are subject to prosecution, history shows that it's not going to stop.
"It's going to cycle back and be used against the current president or the next president ... and the next president and the next president after that."
Justice Neil Gorsuch, who said that the court is "Writing a rule for the ages," along with Justice Samuel Alito and Justice Kavanaugh all said that their concern was not so much the case against President Trump, but rather the effect of the ruling on future presidencies.
Justice Kavanaugh expressed concern about the future implications of the case, warning of the prospect of a vicious cycle of malicious prosecutions that could hamper presidents for years to come.
Justice Kavanaugh argued that the Reagan, Bush, and Clinton presidencies were all "Hampered" by investigations, while suggesting that holding a president accountable is less important than protecting the functioning of the presidency.
He argued that when former presidents are subjected to prosecution, this risks triggering a vicious cycle of vindictive prosecutions.

New Bombshell Evidence Emerges: Was Trump Set Up In Classified Docs Saga?
Among the documents unsealed were extensive exhibits, motions, and other filings shedding light on the intricate web of communication between the Biden White House and the National Archives and Records Administration in the lead-up to Trump's indictment.
The first things is testimony from an FBI agent who testified that the General Services Association had been in possession of Trump's boxes in Virginia before ordering Trump's team to come get them.
This development is significant because Trump has previously blamed the GSA for packing the boxes that contained the classified documents, only to later accuse Trump of essentially stealing them and using that as pretext for sending the FBI to raid his Mar-a-Lago home in August 2022.
Joe Biden had classified information that he was never entitled to have stored in boxes in his garage for years, but was not charged.
While this may not prove the Biden administration set up Trump in the classified documents case, considering the way the Biden administration has abused the legal system against Trump, no one can confidently say they wouldn't.
If the GSA had been in possession of the boxes, why wasn't a review of the materials conducted before they instructed Trump's team to get them? When it comes to classified information, they wouldn't have expected Trump and his staff to be responsible for ensuring that classified documents weren't among the records.
Perhaps they did review the contents of the boxes and knew classified documents were contained in them before they told Trump's people to come get them.
Maria Bartiromo Questions Jim Jordan About 'Congressional Investigations That Go Nowhere'
Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo on Sunday pressed House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan on the lack of headway in House Republicans' investigations into President Biden and other political figures.
Bartiromo and Jordan were discussing the Judiciary Committee's latest report that alleges the New York County District Attorney's Office's hush money probe into former President Trump is "Political prosecution."
"Well, look, I mean, at this point, American citizens are asking, what can you do about it? I mean, look, with all due respect, people are sick and tired of congressional investigations that go nowhere. People are sick and tired of letters being written and sent to the people who we know are bad in the first place," Bartiromo said Sunday on Fox News's "Sunday Morning Futures."
Jordan lamented his frustrations about the former president's other legal battles in Washington, D.C., for his federal election interference case, and in Georgia, where he's accused of participating in a scheme to overturn the state's 2020 election results.
"Well, we have passed legislation out of the committee that would help remedy this situation, particularly the one in New York, but the president or vice president can move a case to federal - to federal court from when you do these state prosecutors who are going after someone for a political reason," Jordan responded.
House Republicans on the Judiciary and Oversight committees have struggled in recent weeks to close their impeachment probe into Biden and are facing rising doubts from their own party about whether investigators discovered any wrongdoing.
The House GOP's formal impeachment inquiry was intended to add legal weight to their claims, which center on allegations Biden was involved with his son, Hunter Biden's, foreign business deals.
California Lawmaker Introduces Bill Banning Excessive Homework
A lawmaker in California introduced a bill that would ban teachers from being able to assign students an excessive amount of homework.
California State Assembly member Pilar Schiavo introduced The Healthy Homework Act, also known as AB 2999, in February, noting in an interview with Fox40 that it would have a "Huge impact" on the students.
Under AB 2999, educational agencies, local school board officials, and school administration officials would need to "Develop, adopt, and update" homework policies "At least once every five years," and take into account research available regarding the impacts of homework on students' physical and mental health.
Educational agencies, school board, and school administration officials would also need to take into account the reasonable amount of time that students should spend on homework and take into account learning disabilities and how some students might lack "Access to the internet, computers, and learning tools."

Green Party's Stein Arrested at Campus Pro-Palestinian Protest
Police arrested Green Party candidate Jill Stein on Saturday during a Gaza war protest at Washington University in St. Louis.
"Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein, campaign manager Jason Call, and deputy campaign manager Kelly Merrill-Cayer were arrested alongside approximately 100 others - mostly Washington University students - at an encampment set up on Saturday on the university grounds," Stein's campaign tweeted.
"The demand from the encampment was specifically for the university to divest from Boeing, which manufactures munitions used in the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza at their nearby St. Charles [Missouri] facility. The Stein campaign supports the demands of the students and their peaceful protest and assembly on campus. Student protest for peace and civil liberties has always represented the best part of our collective moral conscience. Solidarity." According to the university, the protest had the "Potential" to become dangerous.
Subsequently, the college decided to arrest "100 individuals who refused to leave after being asked multiple times." "This number includes 23 WashU students and 4 university employees. All face charges of trespassing and some may also be charged with resisting arrest and assault, including for injuries to three police officers who sustained injuries including a severe concussion, a broken finger, and a groin injury."We are firmly committed to free expression and allow ample opportunity for voices to be heard on our campus," the college statement read. "However, we expect everyone to respect our policies and we will take swift action to enforce them to their fullest extent.
" Stein and other protesters were released at around 2 a.m. on Sunday, The Hill reported.

Philadelphia-Based Republic First Bank Collapses In First Bank Failure Of 2024
The troubled Philadelphia-based Republic First Bank has imploded, with federal regulators seizing it and arranging for it to be taken over by fellow regional lender Fulton Financial, in the first bank failure of 2024.
To protect people with savings at Republic Bank, the FDIC entered into an agreement with Fulton Financial to assume the deposits and assets of the failed bank.
"This evening and over the weekend, depositors of Republic Bank can access their money by writing checks or using ATM or debit cards. Checks drawn on Republic Bank will continue to be processed and loan customers should continue to make their payments as usual," the FDIC said in a statement.
People with savings at Republic Bank don't need to change their banking relationship to continue to have their money covered by the FDIC's deposit insurance guarantee.
Republic's collapse was the first bank failure of 2024; the previous collapse was Citizens Bank, in Sac City, Iowa, on Nov. 3, 2023.
It's also the fourth high-profile bank failure since spring 2023, when a series of bank failures set off a months-long crisis.
By comparison, the Philadelphia-based Republic First Bank had just $6 billion in assets, making its failure less worrisome for regulators.
