Young 'Recreational Rioters' Assault DC Police Officers

Libertarian and leftist skeptics of law enforcement often dismiss special deference shown toward police officers as 'bootlicking.'

Or worse.

Violent mob of juveniles swarms streets, attacks officers in wild ‘teen takeover’ caught on video (Fox News, April 7th, 2026).

While I've winced at over-the-top badge worshippers, it's not groveling to oppose suspects attacking units dispersing disruptive crowds. It's a practical matter to me. If assailants will strike armed, uniformed personnel, imagine what they'd do to citizens?

This concern animates my latest assessment of 'recreational rioting' by youth in the nation's capital. Reports of officers being assaulted wasn't surprising. The same holds true for adult citizens who cross their paths.

I understand President Trump has his hands full with International matters. That said, a White House directive to DC-deployed National Guardsmen and federal law enforcement to use tear gas and mass arrests would stop these weekly so-called 'takeovers' in their tracks.

Prosecuting derelict parents would help too. Their refusal to discipline destructive children has morphed into routine rioting.

Street dominance is being tolerated by weak leaders in Washington, DC and nationally. The only way to end it is through greater dominance. Young people are weaponized to think they're above consequences for public violence and vandalism.

Next, officers or bystanders at 'recreational riots' will be severely injured or worse as weaponization enters its final stage.

We need look no further than instances of 'recreational rioters' assaulting DC police officers; a force whose orders are to cater to their every whim. Escalation is happening every weekend and won't end well.
