HALF of Americans don't pay income tax despite crippling government debt

Our country is a republic, not a democracy no matter what we are repeated told by politicians and pundits alike.  They ignore the fact that the founders abhored democracies because they are majority ruled. This is something our republican form of government, established by the Constitution, specifically avoids.  The founders understood that all democracies in history ended up in mob rule and disaster. The article linked below points out how close we are to having a majority of non-income tax payers.  That means that unless something changes real soon we will be a democracy of non-tax paying voters voting for politicians espousing increasing taxes to benefit the non-tax paying majority.  When that happens disaster will soon follow.

Some supporting facts:  Heritage Foundation's 2012 Index of Dependence on Government reveals that 70% of the federal budget pays for things like family food, housing, subsidies and other programs for priviledged businesses as well as college tuition, unimployment, social security, medicare and medicaid.  Government dependency increased 8.1%  in 2011, alone.  Yet nearly half of the nation's population not paying federal income taxes has climbed to 49.5%.  Serious trouble lies ahead when the more than 77 million  baby boomers retire and they push this total well beyond the 50% level.

These are serious problems that politicians of all stripes have long known about but have not had the intestinal fortitude to deal with because they do not want to upset the ever increasing number of voters receiving federal benefits.  But, if not dealt with soon the non-taxpaying democratic majority will become reality and that spells doom for us all.

This upcoming election is critical.  Make sure you critique all candidates for local, state and national levels.  Run from those who support more government programs that raise taxes. They do not deserve your vote even if you now receive government benefits.  All candidates elected to office must understand that their mission is to cut government spending and reduce escalating local, state and national debts. If the growth of government is not arrested now we will become a democracy comprised of government dependents demanding what government have long promised but can no longer afford.  When that happens chaos will follow.
