Democrats, can we talk?

My fellow Democrats, can we talk? We didn't lose because of Russian hackers.

We steadily lost statehouse seats, more than 900 in all, and governors' mansions and, somehow, all this didn't clue us in to the fact that maybe, just maybe, the country wasn't into the neoliberal policies mixed with cultural superiority that we Democrats had on offer.

As it turned out, this pragmatic bipartisan approach spelled electoral disaster for Democrats.

ADVERTISEMENT. So what's the lesson? Democrats shouldn't be afraid of people such as Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez proposing big ideas and trying to rock the establishment.

The results are in, and they have been for a long time: The neoliberal status quo is a disaster for Democrats, but more importantly, it's a disaster for the country.

That's before we even talk about the way automation is on a relentless march to eliminate around half of the nation's jobs.

We are a nation of lonely, depressed addicts, raging on Twitter and looking to the future with dread. Do you really think tinkering with ObamaCare is going to fix that? Or another job training program? Or paying teachers more?
