Hostess to liquidate if bakers’ strike continues through Thursday

Union workers at 23 of 36 Hostess plants are on strike. The company said they will need to close all of its plants if employees do not return to work on Thursday.
None of the 580 employees are on strike at the Utah Hostess plant in Ogden, yet they could still lose their jobs if the company liquidates.
“It’s frustrating because everybody here feels like what are you going to strike for, they are in bankruptcy. It’s not like you can gain pay wage or anything like that,” said J.C. Robinson, Hostess truck driver based in Utah. “The Utah guys here work. We know that we got to provide for our families and we come to work everyday.”
The CEO of Hostess said the company simply doesn’t have the resources to survive an ongoing national strike.
The Irving, Texas-based company released the following statement:
“We know the concessions are tough, but it would make more sense for unhappy employees to simply leave the company voluntarily than to strike and cause the company to close down, forcing everyone to lose their jobs.”
According to a court filing by Hostess, if the strike lasts through Thursday, they have no choice by to liquidate the company. Employees have until 3 p.m. mountain time on Thursday to return to work.
